I purchased this on September 29, 2013. I am here to write a review after I just ordered this soda today from a different seller (offering a cheaper price on Amazon). I have used regular laundry detergents such as Tide, Gain, All, and Arm & Hammer until I became more sensitive to fragrances due to a lung disease in progress since diagnosis in 2006. When I moved into my new home last October, I bought a new washer/dryer set that required HE laundry soap. A married couple moved in with me to rent and I told the wife to find HE laundry soap for her and her husband. She bought something that had an extremely strong fragrance. At first, I tried to ignore the scent whenever she'd use it to wash clothes. Until one day, she had guests overnight and washed my bedding in her soap - thinking to have my bed all nice and fresh when I came home from visiting my father out of town. Unfortunately, sleeping in my own bed while breathing in the strong perfume eventually led to a visit to the bronchial airways closing off... and the emergency room... and finally the hospital. It was a most distressful time. After returning home from the hospital, we had the wife throw out her soap and begin using my soap - which was Nellie's laundry soda. While I never asked her opinion about this soda, I know I love scooping out soda when I do my own laundry... I stop to smell the hint of freshness in the powder before placing it in the soap dispenser in my washer. While the tin has lasted me for several months, I use either one scoop or two scoops depending on the size of my load. I find two scoops washes a full load quite well. One scoop will wash well, too. But I prefer to use two for full loads so I can smell the freshness when I move the loads to the dryer. I enjoy using this soda. That's all I can write about - it cleans well, leaves no residue, has no offensive fragrances other than a fresh hint of scent... it's not just for cloth diapers as many of the reviews suggest. It's not a detergent - but has worked well on stains for me so far - including menstrual blood stains. I do suggest keeping a stain remover on hand in case you do need it - but I haven't needed it yet. Happy Laundering! Read more

Nellie's is a new brand to me. Honestly, I'm not overly concerned about toxins or keeping things "natural", for me it's if something works. Our household includes people and pets, and we all like clean laundry. Much to my amazement, this stuff has effectively replaced all of my other laundry soaps and boosters, leaving my laundry clean, refreshed, and softer than expected. I'm excited to keep using it. I saw it on a warehouse website and did a web search to learn more. We have hard water (well water) and a septic tank. None of us have skin issues except for dry skin from the well water. I was intrigued by all the positive reviews written about this product and how little of it was needed to achieve fresh, scent-free clean, so I bought this 50-load pack to try it out and my results were fantastic! My first load was a full load of soiled clothing from working outside and two bath towels. I used 2-3 tablespoons (scoop included) to get things clean. I washed it on the "super size" with 2 tablespoons using hot water. The t-shirts (white) were brighter, stains removed, and there was no scent, yet the laundry was refreshed and no hints of dirty, stinky, or unclean. The water had a slight layer of bubbles, but no suds to speak of. The water did get dark with dirty stuff though. The clothing dried with much less lint coming off of the load than it usually has, and everything was soft to the touch. Sort of fluffy in a way that made things like my old fleece jacket seem newer. (I know it sounds weird, but it's true!) The second load was a set of king-size sheets. This too was washed in hot water using two-tablespoons of this product. Again, the results were as before with the bonus of a few blood stains from a cut on my husband's arm being completely gone without pretreating them with any other product. The third load was smaller, a mixed load with one tablespoon (one scoop) of the product in cold water. It too cleaned the clothes as expected, and the load dried with a soft texture, little or no lint, and unscented freshness. My friend who has psoriasis is always looking for products that are unscented, and good for sensitive skin. I immediately let her know about Nellie's and I think she'll like it too. PROS: 1. Super-small amount needed for clean laundry. 2. Using it couldn't be easier. The powder dissolves quickly and completely in any temperature of water. 3. Whites seem brighter after only one wash. 4. Little or no suds. 5. No feeling of residue on the laundry or inside the machine. 6. Laundry is soft to the touch after washing and drying with this product. 7. No laundry pre-treatment is needed for dirt and stains. 8. Eco-friendly and won't harm your septic. 9. Leaves laundry so soft, there is no need for additional softeners. CONS: 1. It is more expensive than other brands. 2. Packaging can get punctured and the product is small (like grains of sand) and could leak out). 3. US buyers may experience higher prices due to tariffs as this is a product of Canada. If you want a high-quality product that gets your laundry clean without perfumes or dyes, is good for sensitive skin, is septic-friendly, removes dirt and stains without the need for a pre-treatment, and leaves your laundry feeling soft and looking refreshed, buy this stuff. It's worth the extra money. Read more

This stuff is great. Plastic free except the little scoop, plant based, cruelty free, safe ingredients. I scoop it directly over my clothes in the wash and fill the detergent reservoir with cleaning vinegar. It has a reaction similar to baking soda when mixed. My clothes come out clean without any artificial "linen" or "fresh" scent. They are actually fresh smelling when I pull em out of the dryer. Container is an actual tin with a tin cork lined top that fits super securely. The container can be repurposed to hold stuff like screws, batteries or whatever. They can also be fully recycled. All around great product, would totally recommend. Read more
