Twenty years ago or so I bought generic Neosporin, I had a fairly deep cut on my thumb, I washed the area well with Dial soap, dried it and then applied the generic ointment, put on a bandaid and that was that...or so I thought. Two days later I was surprised to see that the area around the cut was still pink, in fact, the area of infection seemed to be growing, when I took off the bandaid I was surprised that there had been such a small amount of drainage, I knew then it was the fake antibacterial ointment that was the problem. I went out and bought Neosporin(the brand)and by the end of the day, most of the infection had drained onto the gauze, which is exactly where it should have been before. Just to prove my point to my boyfriend I did a half'n half with the imposter salve and the other half with the Neosporin. The difference was so striking that I wish I would have taken a photo. It's tempting to save $$ when generics are available and I often do take advantage but when it comes to an antibacterial ointment nothing can compare to the real deal. Amazon definitely has the best prices especially when compared to say a Walgreens or Kroger, except for Costco, but since I no longer have a car and for some reason Costco will not sell this online I am thankful to have Amazon. I use Neosporin and a band-aid for all cuts: keep the wound covered and soft and let the healing begin below the skin. I did not rate the "relieves pain" question, because I do not consider Neosporin a pain reliever; I consider it an infection-preventer. About the format: okay, so I didn't look carefully at the picture, which clearly shows that the buyer gets one large tube and two smaller tubes. I expected to receive three large tubes. My fault. You may like the format, because the smaller tubes are great for travel in suitcases or to pop into a purse. I was not so pleased . . . maybe this experience will teach me to choose more carefully.
