First, another reviewer posted pictures and a message about using extreme care removing these from the cardboard. They are attached to the cardboard with those thin plastic things like the ones used to attach a price tag to a piece of clothing, and when you try to pull the ball off, the plastic breaks and leaves a thin piece sticking up from the ball, enough to scratch and injure a dog’s mouth. I used a pair of needlenose pliers to grasp the plastic thing tightly and pull it up out of the ball. It will come completely out without damaging the ball, but Hartz needs to change the way these are packaged. Brownie is a major destruction artist, and the longest a squeaky toy has lasted before she destroys the squeak in it and begins tearing it apart is 15 minutes, even for supposedly super tough toys. As for the ball itself, I have a wirehaired dachshund who loves squeaky toys and loves to chase and fetch. These balls are soft enough that she can squeeze the ball just enough to grab hold of a portion and squeak it without puncturing it. It took her a full day to manage to get the squeak piece out of one of these ball, and the ball remained perfectly intact; she couldn’t tear into the ball itself. The tabs are fun, and she enjoys carrying the ball around by one of the tabs too. Since this is a set of 3 balls, my solution is to let her play with one that squeaks for a few minutes, then play fetch with her. When we’re done playing fetch, I get the ball without the squeaky piece, switch it for the squeaky one without her realizing I’ve fooled her, and let her play with the non-squeaky one until she loses interest because it doesn’t squeak. The balls have an excellent bounce and roll and are just the right amount of give that she gets a sensation of chewing but can’t quite bring it fully together in order to puncture it with her sharp teeth. I would give these 5 stars if there were not a problem with the plastic strips used to attach the balls to the cardboard. I did not notice the smell, but Brownie did and liked it; the noise level is full-on loud squeak which she loves; and once she got the squeaker out, it turned out to still be an enjoyable and durable chew toy for her. This is a great product as all other Hartz Dura Play ones. The only down site is that the flags can fall off over time. Read more
I have purchased a number of dog toys on Amazon looking for something my Jack Russells can actually play with. Numerous items claim to be "for aggressive chewers", but my little female could dismantle them in minutes. These toys have been different. She has chewed through the Dura Play boomerangs and rockets before, but so far these have been her match. The squeak is enough to keep their interest and the size is just large enough that they can't get it on the back teeth to grind. If you have a 15-25 lb toy destroyer for a four-legged child, try these. Read more
These are a nice size and quality for sure, being brand name. The rubber is soft, so if your dog isn't an aggressive chewer then it would be a great toy for a stocking stuffer. I gave my dog one and it was ripped apart in a few minutes, so we'll be giving the other two as presents to my brother's dogs likely. They are a little more gentle with toys! Good quality otherwise. She loves it! As most people know, Huskys can be very destructive. This football has held up, except for the little blue tabs. Something about the squeaker causes her to imitate it. It’s the only toy she does that with. Read more
Fair warning, if you give these as a gift the dog will love you forever but their owner just might hate you for life. You'll be like the ex who gives his kid a drum set to be kept at the other parent's house. The bacon smell is real and the dog will go nuts, which is bound to make the ball start squeaking so loudly that you can only hope the owner doesn't record it and play it for you on a 3am phone call. These balls are honestly great in all respects except for the sheer volume of the squeakers. They're squishy, they float and they smell like bacon. A dog's dream toy. The tabs turned out to be a better idea than I imagined. Even pups and little dogs with little mouths could get in on the fun. I didn't think my friend's tiny dog could manage it but she did. Grabbed it by the tab when my dog wasn't looking and ran off tossing it, grabbing it by a tab and tossing it over and over again. The ball is nearly half her size so it was quite the accomplishment. The price (26.99 currently) is a bit steep for my budget but the quality is there. Read more
