Perfect lightweight, compact travel scale!

riasupermommaJuly 31, 2015

This weighing scale has traveled with me all over! I brought it to Florida, Tennessee, Philadelphia, and even to our trip around Europe. This scale has traveled with me to Rome and Venice in Italy, Monaco, Southern France, through the Swiss Alps, Germany, and Austria! It is light weight (2 lbs) and the size is very compact. It is light enough to fit in my carry-on bag and it will not put on too much weight in my checked bag. Note that when I put the scale in my suitcase, I remove the battery so that it does not activate the scale while in transit. The reading is accurate. I compared the reading to our other digital house scale and they are exactly the same. This has helped me keep track of my weight loss. Since I have bought this scale last July 2014, I have lost 30 lbs just by keeping track of my weight daily. It has been one year since and this weighing scale continues to work great. The neoprene storage sleeve is perfect for when I take it with me when I travel. Note that I did the Medifast diet for 4 months, which requires you to check your weight everyday. Then I continued to watch my weight daily using this scale and keep track of what I eat. If I gain a pound, I try to watch what I eat the next day. When I travel, I take this scale with me and it keeps me on track. It sounds like too much but that's how I have been doing it. Read more

Very familiar with scales and very please with this scale

smoda61April 21, 2014

First to clarify, Weight Watcher staff are members before they can ever become staff. As staff, we are expected to maintain our weight. As you might expect, that is not always easy. I have worked for them for almost 12 years and my weight has been better and worse and recently I became more focused and reached a better employee sanctioned weight. Recently, I was facing a two week vacation to the Florida keys. The idea of how easily I could spin out of control concerned me and I did a search on Amazon for travel scales. I came across this Newline scale with case. I purchased it over a week before leaving and had a chance to validate its consistency and accuracy before leaving town to determine how much faith I should place in the results. I was very pleased with what I saw. I not only compared the scale daily to my home scale, with which I am very familiar, but I also compared it to two weight watcher centers scales which had recently been certified by the government weights and measures. What I found was that on those few singular comparisons, this scale fared very well – AS LONG AS IT WAS NOT ON CARPET. If I recall, no carpet is one of the use instructions that I believe some users ignore. I also compared the scale to my two home scales to establish day to day accuracy. I did this for the whole 10 days I had before the trip. There, I found the scale to still be excellent for my purposes, but I did find that I could get some minor false readings. By this I mean a weight off by less than half a pound. Since I was comparing to two other scales, if I saw a difference, I would reweigh on the travel scale and it would have suddenly corrected itself. From this I learned that it would be best for me to step on more than once each time I weigh myself as the first time I weigh it could be slightly off. I then traveled for two weeks. I weighed myself as I was leaving that morning and threw the scale in my large purse carry on. I was concerned about throwing it in my suitcase as it is glass and I also have no idea what it would look like on an xray scanner and I’d rather not give security an excuse. Regardless, I am glad I bought the optional case. I weighed myself every morning. Every time I weighed myself, I stepped on 3 times. Invariably, all three were either the same or at worst, two out of three were the same. It was great having an indication of how my vacation choices were impacting my weight. I did let out a scream on day 7, but it was still great to know. I continued for the whole two weeks and weighed myself the last morning before throwing the scale back into my carryon for the flight home (day 14 was slightly lower than day 7 thanks to the travel scale). For the two days following the trip, I continued to weigh on the travel scale as well as on my home scales. The travel scale was still spot on and on that second day I was only up less than 1 pound for a whole two week trip. BTW my 6 ft+ husband used the scale every day as well and was to glad to know how his weight was doing. This scale is going to be a permanent addition to my travel accessories. It will be going to France with my next fall. Oh, and lastly, this scale saved me money as the batteries in my travel luggage scale went on the fritz and I used this scale to determine the weight of my suitcases. They weighed 49.5 and 49.6 at check-in. ☺ But before using the scale, one was solidly over 50 pounds and I had to adjust its contents. The fine for over weight bags is either $50 or $75 and I was glad to avoid it. Pros: I think I covered it Cons: Some slight variation, but very acceptable to me for its purpose. Also, it can get hard getting used to stepping on and balancing on the scale. Practice makes perfect but I also discovered that, if the scale was about a foot or so from a wall, I can help balance myself with two index fingers pressing into the wall. This does not affect the results on the scale. I love the scale and have been showing it to family, co-workers, as well as members. Read more

★★★★☆

Solid construction and reliable scale.

CASS RJune 10, 2013

I purchased this scale because my previous travel scale seems to have gone on the fritz. I weigh myself daily and have done so for years. It makes no difference whether I'm going up or down; I want to know my weight. Because of my obsession, I have packed a different travel scale for approximately the past 5 years. I was attracted to this scale because it appeared to be smaller than my previous travel scale. When this scale arrived, I was surprised at its heft! For some reason, I thought it would feel lighter than it does. The specs identify a shipping weight of 2 pounds and I believe the scale itself weighs the entire 2 pounds. However, the construction of the scale seems to be very solid. Based on previous reviews, I had some concern that I would not be able to balance myself on the scale. However, I have no problem standing on the scale, allowing my toes and part of my heel to overlap the device's edges. I have always thought that my home scale was very accurate, most recently when it weighed my suitcase exactly the same as the airport scale. Both my home scale and the NewlineNY scale weigh a consistent amount when stepped on multiple times, but the Newline scale consistently weighs 0.8 pound more. The difference is not significant. What matters is consistency and the scale does produce a consistent outcome every day. As yet, I have not packed the NewlineNY scale and taken it on a trip. I will be doing so in the next month. I like the protection sleeve and believe it will be very handy when packing the scale. I took away 1 star in the rating because of the weight of the device itself. I wish the scale would have been constructed out of a solid plastic rather than tempered safety glass, since I think the plastic would weigh less. Nonetheless, I am pleased with the scale's construction and reliability. Read more

Great scale

CustomerSeptember 29, 2019

I love the traveling scale. It is not hard to use. I gave it four stars because you cannot stand on it regularly, I figured out if you stand sideways on it you can get your weight. I also gave it a four star on accuracy because it was 1 pound heavier than my actual scale. But let’s face it no scale will ever way you the same. It is a very good product and it is light and small to carry when traveling Read more
