A little softer for a crib mattress than by itself, generally the waterproof factor is a bit pointless as crib mattresses tend to be anyway, but it doesn't hurt to also be able to wash an extra layer easily. Fabric is breathable and not too thick or plush. Baby sleeps a little better after getting it vs before. This is a MUST for crib mattress protection. Super easy to keep clean. Breathable material that still protects the crib mattress itself. This was a great hack for the phase when my baby had just begun to roll over and would sleep directly on his face. I felt so good knowing that he would be able to breathe, even with his face pressed against this. It is a great solution that doesn’t dig into your pockets as much as a whole newton mattress but accomplishes the same goal of breathability. I use a newton breathable muslin crib sheet with it, and it works great. It fits a standard crib mattress, has not leaked for us, and is easy to wash and dry.
