I'm a home improvement contractor and I've been looking for a small vacuum for quite some time now. I've always looked at the 1 gallon shop vacs but never liked the size or the reviews. One night I entered small vacuums in the search and just kept clicking page after page after page and eventually saw this little Oreck. Read the reviews and it seemed like it was a good little machine. I wasn't looking for a big shop vac to do major cleanups. I have that and it's just a pain to have to take it out of my shop, load it into the truck and bring it into a clients home. I have a Fein dust extractor that's quiet, but it's big. It'll take care of the big jobs if I need it. But I have to be conscious and make sure to bring it. I wanted a vacuum that I could always have in the truck, so I wouldn't have to remember to pack it up. The rectangular shape and small size allowed me to find a permanent spot in the truck boxes so I'd always have it with me. Now the main use for me is cleaning up after installing cabinets and moldings. These type of jobs produce sawdust and small wood shavings. I usually put down tarps or other types of floor protection but no matter what the dust finds it's way onto the floor or carpet. I use the vacuum during and after the job to keep the site clean. I guess the only real complaint I have is the small bag. It's not really that bad except when the tablesaw is used because it produces quite a bit of sawdust. The bags are very inexpensive, under 40 cents each. Usually I'll dump the sawdust out 1 or 2 times before swapping out to a new bag, just because I'm frugal. I've learned that you can store 2 extra bags inside where the vacuum bag goes on either side of the machine. Makes it nice so I don't have to go out to the truck when it needs replacing. My first major use of the vacuum was installing casings for doors and windows and baseboard in a house that had been gutted and redone. The floors were all hardwood oak and stained a walnut color. White sawdust on a dark floor just sticks out like a sore thumb. The Oreck with it's larger floor attachment does the trick. I use the brush function on the floor attachment to clean the dark floors and it just picks up everything so nice. If something is a bit ground in then you might have to make a back and forth pattern to get the dust up, but usually one pass in an area was enough to clean it up perfectly. The round brush is good for getting the tops of baseboards, window sills and inside of freshly installed cabinets without leaving marks or doing damage. I had the same problem as others with the strap coming loose and the vacuum dropping to the floor. I used the twist tie that came with the machine and wrapped it around the strap to keep it from pulling through, solved the problem. This is definitely something Oreck needs to remedy. It's uncalled for. As for storing the vacuum in the truck I built a small plywood box that holds the vacuum and all the tools securely with a very small footprint. So far I'm pretty impressed with the vacuum. Read more

I had worn out a previous Oreck compact vacuum, and was thrilled to find this one. I love that it is a commercial quality product, as I use it often. Read more

I am pleased so far. Although i thought it was missing a strap hook but it was hiding in the bag. I wasn’t too impressed at first cuz i thought the handle was too short but then saw it expands. I like the the smaller head because it fits under thing nicely. Although idk if i like the switches that stick up quite a bit. Personal issue is the orange cord. But i don’t care as long as it works. I like the attachments selection. I think there should be a locking mechanism to keep the wands on. You have to make sure it’s snug so it doesn’t come off. I really haven’t used it but once so not sure if other issues will arise. For the price, i think it’s worth it. The suction is good too! Read more

Great vacuum! Works very well with powerful suction. It’s light enough but a little wonky and uncomfortable while using the hose. I also recommend getting a surface brush that they used to make because the one that comes with it is not good. My parents had one when I was growing up and they still have it. 20+ year life span on it. Read more

This is the best vacuum cleaner I’ve ever used! I have severe nerve damage and arthritis in my hands and have had an upright vacuum for many years. My Dyson needed to have the brush roll removed and cleaned...again. Too difficult a task with my hands, so I decided it was time for a new vacuum cleaner. This little wonder has AMAZING power/suction, is lightweight and easy to carry, has a super long 30-ft industrial power cord and much easier on my hands than the Dyson upright, which was large, heavy and cumbersome to use, especially on the stairs. And i can also use this little gem as a leaf blower by attaching the hose to the exhaust port!! My only caveats are: 1. It would be better if there were an optional backpack carrier vs the current shoulder strap, as the shoulder strap places the unit in a slightly impractical position and it tends to slip off my shoulder during use. 2. An optional extender wand would be helpful for higher, cathedral ceilings. All in all, best vacuum cleaner I’ve ever owned due to the massive power/suction, lightweight design and extra long, 30 ft power cord!! And the price was very reasonable. Thank you Oreck!! 7/7/2020 Update: I tried to use this vacuum cleaner as a leaf blower by putting the hose on the exhaust port...didn’t really have enough power to get the job done, but it was worth a try. This could be something for Dyson to work on! (Hint, hint!) Read more

I have my own cleaning business and Oreck is the only vacuum I will use. I have purchased MANY handheld vacuums in the 20 years I’ve been cleaning houses. This sucker is strong. The suction power is like no other handheld vacuum. I read other reviews and I’ve never had a problem with the straps, bags, shutting off or overheating. The bag seems small but last a long time. I’ve never had the vacuum shut off because the bag was full. The first one I got lasted 10 years and still worked but I purchased the newer model in 2021 and haven’t had a single issue. It can get to feeling a little heavy if your wearing it for a while. My only issue is that the cord is so long that when I wrap it up, the hooks are too small to hold the entire cord without it slipping off. When I put in or take it out of my truck the cord slips off. I use this daily and for the cord to slip off and drag as I’m carrying cleaning supplies into a house can be very frustrating. So I have to take my time and wrap the cord tight and close and still doesn’t really stay on. Other than that I have no complaints. I definitely recommend this handheld vacuum over any other!
