I am absolutely in love with this Oreck Vacuum!! I have owned many vacuums and this one outperforms them all! You turn the thing on and it moves by itself dragging me along with it! A dream to operate! Very light weight and extremely powerful suction. I like that it has 2 settings..low for hardwood and high for carpet. The HEPA filter is HUGE due to my allergies to dust and pollen. I vacuumed my whole house yesterday ( 2,500 sq ft ) and never broke a sweat. It just glides around. Some reviewers have complained that it is louder than they would have liked. So What?!?! This thing is powerful and my floors have never felt better in bare feet. I would give this 10 STARS if I could! Read more

What I really bought this vacuum for was for the very lightweight feature. I wanted a vacuum that I could use for quick touch ups and would be light enough for me, not being a very big person, could easily carry up and down the stairs without asking my husband to do it for me. It is just that- very light weight, and maneuverable, but I do have other vacuums that I believe do a more deep cleaning job, and that includes getting the allergens etc. For an allergy sufferer, a bagged cleaner is a must. Have been using this machine for a few weeks, and am wondering if it really is a good as my Miele, a great upright but weighs a ton. I also own a Miele canister, many years old, which is needed to clean any other things aside from carpets, and floors. For me, it's very good for touch up cleaning of carpets, but my allergies have been worse lately, could the new Oreck be responsible? So, I still have to use other alternatives and not completely depend on this Oreck. After using this vaccum for sometime, I have less good to say about it. Yes, it's very lightweight, but I have noticed it DOES NOT clean my carpet deeply, and now after a month or so of use, notice a strange, dusty odor emitted while using, which is very obnoxious. It has a HEPA bag, but does it have the same HEPA filtration system as other vacuums. My allergies are worse, and I will use this machine in the basement only now. A shame, because it has many other features which I did like. Read more

This is absolutely and without a doubt the best vacuum I've ever had! I have back problems and was using a Hoover Wind Tunnel self-propelled until it broke down (for the second time in a little over a year). I decided that I would get a good vacuum that would last. I found the Magnesium RS online and thought it was a bit pricey. I was also very skeptical about the claim that, even though it wasn't self-propelled, you could run it across a plush carpet with one finger. Well, I'm not a skeptic any more! That is absolutely true. It's so light, and with the wheels (which I could never understand why Oreck didn't put them on their vacuums), you would never know it wasn't self-propelled. I've had Orecks in the past, and I wasn't crazy about changing the bags, as I always ended up with dust all over the place. The bag on the Magnesium not only pulls out easily, but it has a sliding dust cover that slides over the opening on the bag to keep 99% of the dust where it belongs. I have three cats who love to scatter litter around their boxes, but this vacuum sucks it all up like a trooper. The two speeds are great. All I have to do when I want to vacuum a throw rug is put it in low speed, and I don't have to worry about it sucking up half the rug. The auto turn-off feature works wonderfully if it happens to grab the corner of a rug. The vacuum shuts off immediately to allow you to remove the obstruction. I never understood what the big thing was about a swivel head on a vacuum, but it makes a tremendous difference when you're vacuuming around furniture. If you're looking for a top of the line vacuum that is a breeze to use and does a fantastic job, this is exactly what you're looking for! Read more

Our house is 4 stories high so I originally thought we’d keep one vacuum upstairs and one down, but this machine is so light (+#1) and maneuverable (+#2) that the old machine was gathering dust in the closet until we gave it to our daughter. Our Oreck is the swivel steering model. I thought it was probably a gimmick, but it actually works (+#3). You simply point the machine in the direction you want it to go. The suction is better than our bigger, heavier. more expensive machine (+#4), proving that you don’t have to be a heavy weight to have pull. Some people have reported problems with shag carpet. We’ve only go one but have had no problems. Our Cocker Spaniels shed some (but not too much) and, again, no problems. As advertised, it lies flat so you can slide it under most furniture(+#5). As far as I could tell the consumer and commercial models differed only in the heft of the attached cord, which, by the way, is not part of the advertised weight. The consumer cord is plenty long and sturdy. Don’t waste your money on anything else. The biggest problem with the cord is the same as all vacuums — how to keep it out of the way. Oreck has a clip high on the handle. It doesn’t work. There are “whiskers” that stick out on each side that do work, so you can get really close front and sides (+#6). In case you missed it, this is only a floor and carpet vacuum. You really need something else for the steps. I’ll admit this is an inconvenience, but overall worth it. We bought our Oreck from Amazon Warehouse Deals. They said the box was a mess — and it was — but everything else was OK. With that saving, we essentially got the swivel steering for free. Read more
