ORICO USB Hub Compatibility with Mac mini M4 9-in-1 Aluminum Dock with SSD Enclosure for NVME SATA M

Wanted a USB hub and SSD enclosure for my Mac Mini M4. Connected older USB equipment such as printer (wifi disconnects) and DVD/Blu-ray player to back ports and Webcam to front port when using (1-2 times a week). The SSD works great using a 2TB memory device for a quick backup. Fan noise is low and doesn't bother me. Also like the power off button when not using the USB ports or SSD (need to eject drive first). Have tried other USB hubs with the Mini M4 and they seemed to suffer from USB drop-outs or poor SSD performance. Good low cost investment. Read more

Solid hub for the new Mac Mini with one major problem. I like the port options and the SSD option. I also like that you can put the Mac either on top of or under the hub. My major issue with it is the front power button. The power button on the front turns the hub on and off not the Mac itself. I originally saw the power button and thought “oh easier power button access on top of more IO.” But sadly the power button only turns the hub on or off. Why put it in the front?! Very confusing and misleading in my opinion. If I had checked the reviews I would have seen other talk about it but with the information given I would not have thought it just powers on/off the hub itself. The only other thing I noticed was the magnets for the button plate are a little weak. So sliding it around can sometimes cause it to come off. Not a big deal but worth noting. The fan noise is there but not too loud for me. My environment have other equipment with fans so this one is hardly noticeable. It’s a home or office set up it might be noticeable though. Works Great! No complaints or issues with it. It just works! Have installed a 2GB acer M.2 SSD, and all is well. Only criticism is that I really would prefer it didn't have a power button on it and just automatically came on when the Mac Mini M4 was powered on. Read more

The good: * The Orico M49p is easy to setup. The only issue I had installing my SSD was a magnet right next to the mounting screw. So when you set the screw into the hole it will fly out some 5mm to the magnet. Annoying but also a little funny. * I searched, and searched, and searched some more and could not figure out if the Orico M49p supported APFS formatted drives. Well it does. I have a 2gb Hynix SSD and it's running just fine. Why they don't tell us these things is beyond me. This is important because some of these hubs that are so popular on Amazon right now only support exFAT. * It's powered so you should be able use older USB A external drives without issue. The bad: * The power button is the dumbest thing going. Why put a power button on the front of the device that is so easy to bump by mistake when removing a device. If you tap that button you have lost access to all your ports AND THE HARD DRIVE YOU MIGHT BE USING. STUPID. * Maybe related to the stupid power button is that when the Orico M49p powers up after a power failure you need to press the STUPID power button again to turn on your devices. No power recovery for you. Hope you don't want to use the Orico M49p as a boot device. * The inards of my Orico M49p are askew in the case just a few millimeters. Not much but enough that the SD/TF Card Readers useless to me. I'll just keep using a USB adapter I guess. Neutral: * The biggest complaint I've seen is about the fan. It's really not that loud and is way, way quieter than typing. It is really hard for me to recommend the Orico M49p Hub. It has some things going for it but the poor implementation kinda dampens my enthusiasm. Read more

Six months in and doing fine. As fast as I need it to be. Plenty of outlets in back and front, which I use more than I anticipated, especially when batteries go low on mouse or keyboard and I need to switch to wired. Earphone plug in front too. There is a low level concern that the fan runs constantly and its functioning properly sustains the chip that holds my whole professional design career.
