At most campsites, in order to get firewood for your campfire, you are only allowed to collect deadfall or purchase wood locally so as not to transmit pests or disease to the flora of the area. I generally use a hatchet for collecting my firewood, but carrying a hatchet isn’t always convenient due to the weight. Other times, it would be easier to utilize a saw for preparation of the firewood. This saw comes in a nice, rugged container with a belt hook that allows you to carry the saw conveniently. The container top has a small latch to prevent the container from opening when trekking through the brush. When evaluating the saw, I appreciated that wide portion of the handle for holding the saw, and the safety lock which prevents the saw from opening and closing without interaction. My only concern was that the 6” blade is relatively thin and fairly flexible, which will reduce its lifetime as many times your saw will bind during cutting and the thin blade offers the possibility of it snapping. Pruning saws generally are nearly twice as thick as this blade, which is more of what I was expecting. This is a very handy little mini saw. Make sure you want a mini-one as this is much smaller than the full size saw but the benefit of that is that you could put this in a cargo pocket or hang it off your belt. The blades are sharp and it folds/unfolds and locks nicely. It has a nice solid feel and I had no problem with my test cuts - remember these are pull saws. The only thing that I didn't like was the case - it's cheap plastic and feels like an afterthought. A canvas or better quality case with make this 5 stars because it's otherwise good value.
