This is a great produce with only really 1 minor fault that I will touch on in a moment. Pros: Different prong depth can be inserted for dogs that have thicker fur versus shorter fur (only the medium size is shown in these photos). 3 different modes - beep, vibrate & shock. Adjustable collar. Rechargeable collar and hand device. Cons: The “sleep mode.” There is no way to turn it (the sleep mode itself) off. So when you’re trying to do precise corrections or beep warnings for your dog it makes it very difficult to do. The sleep mode takes a few seconds to “wake” the controller back up and by then the moment you originally needed it for is already past. Not easily used for precise command work. However, I have used this collar for a long time with my German Shepherd. I got him used to it by putting it on him right before we would go outside to play. For the entire first week I intentionally left the controller inside and just had him wear the collar so that he would be completely comfortable with it and he was. He would excitedly put it on because he knew it meant outside play time. I first used the beep function only and trained him to understand that when the collar beeped he had to look at me and give me his attention. It worked very well. I then introduced a low level vibrate and trained him to come to me when the collar would vibrate. Also worked very well to train him on a low level and only increase to a higher one when I had harder times getting his attention. The shock function itself was rarely used. Only in extreme circumstances, like the day he ran into the road after a squirrel. It was used to break his attention on what he was chasing, not to hurt him. Using the product was super simple. But I can’t stress enough that it should be used in conjunction with proper training so that the device actually means something to the dog. And always try to keep training positive! When the dog does what’s expected, then reward him. And let him get used to the feel of the collar before ever using any of the functions. My dog was never afraid of that collar ever, partly because we took the time to help him get used to it and gave him an understanding of what to do when the different functions were used. First I want to start with the quality and performance of the product. Right out of the box the remote and collar feel great, great build quality and does not feel cheap at all, I charged it for about 30 minutes after I got it out of the box it and was at a full charge, I’m sure it had some juice still when I opened it. Easy to operate nothing really out of this world, switching through the many modes this collar has is very easy, just a push of a button. The sound is a beep that you can hear and It will definitely get your pets attention as well as the vibration feature. Of course I had to test the static shock on myself before using it on my dog and I must say this thing packs a shock, level 30 was enough for me to feel a sharp shock nothing I couldn’t handle but when I bumped it to 40 it definitely made me jump so go figure. I set mine at 40. Now my pet, As soon as the door opened to go outside he bolted and ran away, would not come when you called his name and if you tried to approach him and try to get him he would run even further, something I was tired of, I got the collar on him and he got zapped 2 times, he now knows his boundaries and for only having this collar for less than a week i can say it definitely helps and your pet will learn to not do whatever it is that will bring him a shock or beep, I now use the beep feature and he also knows what that means, I only go to the shock in case of emergencies but i haven’t had to use it since the first day, over all very happy with the product quality and price and would highly recommend it. This collar works, and it works reliably. I haven't had any issues with it rain or shine, and it seems to handle a fair amount of distance fairly well. The dual charger they include is very convenient, and I find I rarely have to charge it. They even include two extra prongs so you can adjust for the length of your dogs coat. Now for the cons: the biggest downfall of this product is the design of the remote. Everything is digitalized on the screen, which means you cannot quickly and easily tell what setting you are on without turning on the remote and fidgeting with it for a few moments. This can make snap corrections difficult (I have been using it to dissuade my dog from chasing small animals, and you often only have a moment before the dog breaks out into a full on sprint). The remote will fall asleep after a certain period of time, which means you have to push any of the buttons at least once to turn the remote on before it will actually do anything. This also makes snap corrections difficult. Not only can my correction come too late, but it can happen on the wrong setting or even accidentally. You have to be careful with just having it attached to your belt as well, since the buttons tend to stick out and may get pressed unknowingly. For these faults the product gets four stars instead of five. Even with all that, I still very much like the collar and use it on a day to day basis. I find the vibration setting set above fifty is more effective than any low level shock, though that might just be because my dog is so hard headed (she is a Doberman- few things get under her skin!). I would not recommend ever shocking your dog at level 100- if you're using this collar correctly, you should barely need a fourth of that. I rarely go into the shock setting as a high level vibration is often more than enough to get my dog's attention and break her from the chase, which is all you want and all you need. If you are hurting your dog, you are not using it properly. It's a good deal for the price and the waterproof aspect is very important since I live in rainy Seattle. If you're looking for something convenient for at home training then I would say go for it, it has done wonders for me. If you need something for those snap corrections, you may want to look elsewhere. Overall, a good product. I don't regret my purchase. Read more
