These Philips Hue bulbs are fantastic. Setup was quick and easy, and the app is very intuitive. Within minutes I was adjusting brightness, switching colors, and setting schedules right from my phone. The light quality is excellent — bright when you need it, warm and cozy when you want to relax. The color options are fun without feeling gimmicky, and everything transitions smoothly with no flicker or delay. Voice control works reliably too, which makes everyday use super convenient. They cost a bit more than basic smart bulbs, but the performance, reliability, and overall experience make them worth it. Once you try Hue, it’s hard to go back. Read more

We've have about a dozen Philips Hue bulbs in our house, adding them over a period of a few years. They're just really nice bulbs, most obviously because you can change the colors for a mood effect, but mainly because you adjust the color temperature to create just the right light ambience. Philips' Hue app is very good too, and it lets you set up all kinds of automation. The one I use is a simple timer, turning the lights on at sunset and off at 12:15 a.m. But we have everything connected to an Amazon Alexa hub as well, and it's flawless. We bought this latest round of bulbs as an up-to-date replacement after Belkin decided to retire the Wemo devices we'd been using all of a sudden. That system was primitive by comparison, so this is a definite upgrade. Apparently you can use the Hue bulbs without the Philips Bridge (their hub) - albeit with some limitations that may or may not be important to you - but we've had one from the beginning. One final point: Philips' tech support is outstanding. When the Bridge stopped working after our Internet company replaced our modem and connected the Bridge to our mesh Wi-Fi router, their tech support told me right away that it needs to be plugged into the stock router (the one in the same box as the modem). Easy to use, install, and connect to my existing Hue bridge and app. I would buy again and the value is much better than the original Hue bulbs! Compatibility with original hue bulbs: very close but not exact match. I have a ceiling fan with 3 sockets, but only had 2 of the older generation Phillips Hue bulbs, so I bought these crossing my fingers that the color output would match when I had them set on the same color in the Hue app. It was a very close match but I could tell a slight difference - I don’t think you’d notice if you didn’t know to look for it or have a keen eye for it. If you had them across the room or in different fixtures, you would not be able to tell, but right next to each other/ in the same fixture there was a slight difference. [I had bought a pack of 4, so I just put 3 of the new ones in the ceiling fan and moved my old ones somewhere else - problem solved. :)] Read more

We got Hue bulbs years ago and love them. But many failed (rapid blinking or won’t turn off). We wanted to stay with Hue for the app but needed a less expensive option. These were perfect. And they have color! These bulbs don’t give the low candlelight option that the more expensive hue bulbs offer. I loved the original hue bulbs to the bedrooms since they dim just a bit more. But these Essential bulbs are perfect everywhere else. The Hue app is great. We have a wake up routine that gradually brightens the bulbs in the bedroom and we wake up naturally instead of too alarms. The night time routine does the same, helping us sleep. Read more

Having just moved into a new home, I didn't want to break the bank on expanding my Hue ecosystem. Even the white ambiance bulbs hover around $20/each, which is a hefty price to pay. However, the ecosystem and its ease of use (and its inabililty to clog my WiFi network) was something I wanted to stay inside of, and these bulbs offered an interesting value proposition. Upon installation, I was decently impressed by the product. I put these in a ceiling fan on our main floor, primarily to give dimming capability. The pairing process with the hub was effortless, and within 5 minutes they were up and running in HomeKit. In a fixture like this where there's four bulbs, they get plenty bright, and the color reproduction is pretty decent too. Sometimes, I do notice some lag when fading the grouped bulbs in HomeKit, but things catch up fast enough that I won't complain too much; this was also me playing around with what they were capable of, so I was moving pretty quickly through settings. There's one warning I would give: like some other reviewers, I have noticed a heftily reduced capability in the white spectrum, even in the 2200K-6500K advertised by Philips. These will absolutely not give those beautifully orange whites below 2700K, and sometimes even around that mark I can notice a little pink coming through. For my needs, I would never use these in a bedroom where that deep orange glow of a dimmed incandescent is desired, and even when dimming using HomeKit's Adaptive Lighting feature it's a noticeable shortcoming in the product. The RGB spectrum doesn't feel nearly as handicapped, though; colored lighting isn't an issue. If those deep warm whites aren't a big deal for you -- and for me, in this space, they aren't -- then I would highly recommend these as a good value proposition that works pretty well. I also probably wouldn't mix and match these with the regular Hue lineup, but for my main floor these will likely be in every fixture eventually. Read more
