Cools well, with caveats

This upright ac unit does generate a good amount of cooling air and quickly. The adjustable louvers help to direct air flow where needed. By default, they point up quite high, so I tend to set them as low pointing as possible. They’re operable by remote or by the control panel on top of the unit. I like that they’re well guarded to prevent curious little fingers from poking around in them. The vent hose is quite large, but necessary. It heats up pretty substantially, so pay heed to your unit placement to make sure there’s enough ventilation. In the ac mode, the condenser is a bit louder than expected and it also vibrates my floor. I have an old house with less than flush flooring I’m sure, but still, it takes a little getting used to. The unit needs to be drained of water accumulation, which needed to happen much sooner than I anticipated. The unit will display a light right next to the power button indicating it’s full and needs drainage before it can be used. You’ll need a shallow vessel to catch the gushing water output. The drain port is very low on the unit making drainage a little tricky. Overall, this unit does the job and my son is relieved to have effective cooling in his bedroom! Read more

Loud but works

This was okay to set up..When it came the side was banged up and there was a piece that was snapped...It does still work but that is unfortunate that an item at this value came broken with a snapped section...The machine is extremlely loud but does blow cold air. It is great for smaller room or a living space. It does work but I am not happy about the way the product looks (damaged). I wish they would state that this is loud when running. If you have just the fan on its not loud but if you have the cooling on wow it is really loud which is annoying when in a smaller room and trying to sleep. It came with the window kit to set up. If you use the AC you have to have the vent connected to window. Read more

Ice, Ice, Baby 🥶

We purchased a home recently that included an add-on room in the back of the home. Though the room was linked into the homes existing HVAC system, this room gets undetectable amounts of cooling and heating. This GarveeTech portable air conditioner has been the answer to our prayer. This room would be otherwise unusable in the summer if not for this air conditioner. Right from the box, this unit is 85% ready to go. The only real assembly is the exhaust hose and window kit. For our install, I had to shorten the window mount that holds the exhaust tube. If you have a miter saw the process is very easy (though any saw will get the job done). IMO, the instructions for installing the exhaust tube and window mount is a bit lean and could use a little more detail. This would have made the install smoother (having never installed a portable A/C unit). Also missing from the install instructions was the function of a screen that is included with all the other parts. I still am not sure where this nylon screen is supposed to go but decided to add it to the EVA filter housing as an additional filter. Beats me if that's where it goes?!? What I really like about this unit is how quietly it operates. Much quieter than what you'd get from a legacy window unit. The operating manual does a good job of explaining the control panel on the top of the unit as well as the remote (which I doubt I'll use). For a 500 sqft room, I personally don't believe we'll use a remote and if we did, it would likely just get lost anyway. An idea, however, regarding the remote would be a mounting bracket for the remote. I guess it's the opinion of the manufacturer that you'll never misplace a remote that does not come with a wall storage bracket. 🤔 Though the unit is pretty heavy, it comes equipped with casters to make moving it a breeze. Though I doubt we'll ever move our unit, having casters on the bottom will make cleaning around and under the unit so much easier. Functionally, we were not disappointed. The unit puts out ice-cold air. We run our unit at 76 degrees and it takes about 10 to 15 minutes to get the entire room comfortable. Full disclosure, we have a ceiling fan in that room which does help circulate the air. All-in-all, this is a good portable A/C unit. Though pretty easy to assemble and operate, the installation instructions could use a little additional work. We are new to this unit so I can't provide any longevity or maintenance issues, so unfortunately, we have some exposure there. Read more

When you need that cold a/c air...

This is a great portable A/c unit. Like a window unit this will need a outside hook up if you plan to run it for long periods of time. But unlike a window unit that can be a pain to install and has to be certain windows this can go anywhere. It is rather light weight for its size and has wheels to make it even easier. You plug this into an outlet and within a few minutes you have ice cold air coming from the unit. It has a remote also where you can set a thermostat and or control the fan speed. This unit is also pretty quiet which is also nice but let me tell you when you want/need that a/c this thing could be pretty loud and I wouldn't care.( its not loud at all though, that was just a reference) Love this thing and the main reason is to help with an upstairs that the main unit has problems keeping cool on the hot days and this just makes it like it could snow up there. Well built and quality constructed just as good if not better than the ones I looked at at the big box stores. Read more
