I DRINK A LOT OF WATER EVERY DAY. WITH THE DROUGHT IN CALIFORNIA, OUR WATER (FROM WELLS) HAD A HIGHER CHLORINE CONTENT WHICH I FOUND QUITE OFF-PUTTING, AS I HAVE ALWAYS DRUNK THE TAP WATER JUST FINE UNTIL NOW. THE CHLORINE SMELL WAS QUITE STRONG, LIKE SWIMMING IN THE COMMUNITY POOL! THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE WATER, JUST THE SMELL. I TRIED FILLING WATER PITCHERS FROM THE TAP AND LETTING THEM SIT OVERNIGHT ON THE COUNTER TO OFF-GAS THE CHLORINE GAS. THIS HELPED A LITTLE, BUT NOT ENOUGH. IT STILL TASTED A LITTLE METALLIC. SO I BOUGHT THE PUR 5 Cup Water Filter Pitcher CR-4000 AS AN EXPERIMENT TO SEE IF IT WOULD MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE TASTE AND SMELL OF THE WATER. THE PITCHER COMES WITH A CHARCOAL FILTER AND LITTLE STICKERS TO HELP REMIND YOU WHEN TO CHANGE THE CYLINDRICAL CHARCOAL FILTER (EVERY 3 MONTHS). THE FILTER INSTALLS WITH A QUICK TWIST, AND I FILLED THE TOP BLUE RESERVOIR WITH TAP WATER. IT FILTERED DOWN INTO THE CLEAR PITCHER AND WAS ABLE TO POUR EASILY. THE WATER IMMEDIATELY TASTED AND SMELLED SO MUCH BETTER. I COULD DRINK WITHOUT GAGGING, AND MY COFFEE TASTED SO MUCH BETTER THAN BEFORE. THE 5 CUP SIZE IS PERFECT FOR THE BEDROOM NIGHTSTAND, BUT WAS TOO SMALL FOR MY REGULAR USE IN THE KITCHEN, WHERE I REGULARLY DRINK 5 QTS OF WATER A DAY. . SO I ALSO BOUGHT THE PUR 8-CUP SIZE PITCHER AND FOUND THIS WORKED WELL IN MY BATHROOM FOR TOOTH BRUSHING, TAKING PILLS, ETC, BUT STILL NOT LARGE ENOUGH FOR DAILY USE. THEN I ALSO BOUGHT THE PUR 18-CUP STATIONARY DISPENSER WITH TAP FOR THE REFRIGERATOR. SUCCESS! COLD FRESH WATER THAT TASTES GREAT! I ONLY HAVE TO BE CAREFUL WHEN OPENING REFRIGERATOR DOOR THAT I DON'T PUSH THE SPIGOT HANDLE AND LEAK ON THE SHELVES. I LIKED THE 18-CUP SIZE SO WELL I ORDERED A SECOND ONE TO PLACE ON MY COUNTERTOP NEXT TO THE SINK FOR WATER TO FILL MY COFFEE MAKER. USUALLY I DISPENSE IT INTO AN OLD RUBBERMAID PITCHER AND THEN POUR INTO THE COFFEE MAKER. THEY ARE COMPLETELY PORTABLE AND COULD BE USED WHEN TRAVELING OR MAYBE EVEN CAMPING. THE FILTERS Pitcher Filter CRF-950Z ARE EASY TO ORDER FROM AMAZON TO HAVE ON HAND, AND FIT BOTH THE 5 AND 8-CUP PITCHERS AND THE 18-CUP DISPENSER. THE PITCHERS AND THE LARGE DISPENSER COME APART EASILY FOR DISHWASHING (I DO THEM BY HAND). I IMAGINE THEY COULD BE WASHED IN THE TOP RACK DISHWASHER BUT NOT HEATED DRY. THE PUR FILTERS ARE BETTER THAN THE BRITA FILTERS: NO COMPARISON. THE ONLY CON FOR THE PITCHERS AND THE DISPENSER IS THAT IT TAKES A LONG TIME FOR THE WATER TO FILTER FROM THE TOP TO THE BOTTOM (IF YOU ARE IN A HURRY). OTHERWISE, I JUST FILL AT NIGHT, AND NEXT MORNING IT IS READY. Read more

I purchased my current pitcher in April, 2016, and love having it sit on my countertop right next to the sink and coffeemaker! I came back today because I figured it was time to get a back-up but instead of $28.00, it is now listed as $79. I am really disappointed that they have apparently stopped making these. I've owned 3 of these over the last 20 years, and as long as you don't try to carry it full of water, it never leaks. Living in a senior apartment tiny space, it was perfect since I don't drink cold water, just room temperature cool. I never liked the newer filters that came out, but the original filters were sold in bulk so I bought 30 of them because I knew that eventually it wouldn't be available as well and I was right. These are delicate, but that doesn't mean they don't last, obviously. The clogged filters problem are just that...the filters are garbage, not the container. So, if I can find one for a reasonable price again, I'll snap it right up. This one really was a keeper. 3/6/22 UPDATE: Found a seller on Amazon that was selling a new one for $50 so I didn't hesitate. Arrived in perfect condition, and happy that I have a backup for when my current one stops working for me. Good to go and highly recommend. Wonderful replacement for our Pur Pitcher! Our water tastes like bleach sometimes so don’t use it straight from the faucet to cook or drink. We have been using a Pur Pitcher for several years and it has done well for us although in the summer months as we were both drinking more water we felt like we were always filling it up. Since we have received our new 18 Cup Dispenser we have so much more water! I also like how I can have the filtered water totally filled and then have water in the part that is ready to be filtered as we use it! It does not over flow or leak and we are really enjoying it! This is a wonderful water filter that we will enjoy in the months and years to come! Also the taste of the water is so great so we feel better drinking it and are drinking more of it! UPDATE- 2/29/20. We now have a new refrigerator that purifies our water for us so I do not use the 18 Cup dispenser in that frig. But now we have an extra refrigerator in our garage so I am going to put it in that one so we can have water extra handy as we work in the yard etc. Also I am going to use the container as we have people over as you can never have enough extra cold water... especially in the Summer! Still loving this product as it was such a great buy for us!! Read more

This is a great product. Don't get me wrong at all. The only draw back for me is the handle spout is too close as you try to fill a glass and it becomes low in water. You want to tilt it to get last bit of water out before adding more in. But the handle SNAPS!! back up and slams into the container scaring the crap out of me and even the animals. ^.^ Only worry about that is I am afraid it will break the plastic it is made of when it hits it with so much power. It is VERY loud snap. Very sensitive as well . Doesn't take much to cause it to snap back. My other complaint if you must call it that. That would be on the price for something that is made of plastic. You shouldn't wash it in a dish washer because the plastic on any other item in a dish washer would buckle or melt even. So it is to be hand washed. They don't give that understanding in the directions. The plastic it is made of is good. Not saying it isn't . Just feel if you selling something to be "Pur" meaning clean or as the long version of the name means "pure" Then it should be sold in a container made of metal or glass. Just saying. ^.^ Anyways that is my thoughts and not criticisms. Even if sounded like that. ^.^ Read more
