The car came today. It looks pretty cool, but was unsure of how long to charge the lithium battery for. It came with the charging cord when I plugged it in there was a red light on it. I’m assuming that means not ready to go hopefully in a little bit, it will turn green so I know it’s fully charged. Read more

This RC monster truck has been a huge hit and is a lot of fun to drive. The 1:12 scale makes it a good size—not too small for outdoor play, but still easy for kids to handle. It can hit speeds up to 25km/h, which feels pretty fast without being uncontrollable, and the 2WD setup makes it simple enough for beginners to get the hang of. The alloy shell feels sturdy and has already handled a few crashes without breaking. I like the LED lights because they make it look cool and easier to see in the evening. The battery life is about 30 minutes per charge, which is decent for play sessions, though I’d recommend getting a spare battery if your kids play a lot. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but while I’m not blown away, I’m not dissatisfied either. For one, this doesn’t really have a lot of “oomph” to it as I could barely get it to drive through short grass on its highest setting. It’s not the slowest, but it definitely not the fastest. Acceleration is slow and lags, even on the highest setting. Once it gets going though it’s decently quick. Build quality is good in most places such as the metal body, decent shocks. And overall design. But the shocks aren’t doing much overall, the torque isn’t there and there is a lot of plastic where it’d be better to have metal. Controller is ok, seems to transmit well overall. You get more form than function with this one, but it isn’t too far off the mark. Read more

This is a toy-grade RC car, which means you can't "upgrade" it or replace parts that break without having to get creative. The body is nice though, it has a metal panels which are painted very nicely. The tires have a decent amount of give to them and look nice. The suspension doesn't really work, the car itself isn't heavy enough to make the suspension functional and it's not fast enough to be able to send it high enough into the air on a jump for them to actually absorb any of the impact. The steering is not proportional (which means full left/full right) but it does have proportional throttle. This RC is ideal for kids who have limited experience with RCs. It's not too fast for them to control and helps them understand how the proportional throttle works. However, this is no where near hobby-grade. So if you or your kid have experience with RC cars, this may be a bit of a dissapointment as it's not very fast and the turning radius is not great, so this is definitely an RC for outdoor use only. The battery uses a 4 pin style connector, which means that if you have other batteries you'd like to use to extend run times - you'll need to solder on a new connector as there are no hobby-grade batteries that use this style connector. At full throttle this is about jogging speed (which, honestly is a good speed for kids with limited to no experience). The battery lasts quite a while on a full charge - we were able to get about an hour of play time out of it (walking along paved walking trails). Bottom line: If you don't think your kid is ready for hobby-grade RCs then this is decent, although it lacks proportional steerings, it's not difficult to drive. If you want something that you can replace parts as they break, there are better options out there for roughly the same price. This is about the same thing (and value) you'd get off the shelf from the toy isle at your local grocery store. I gave it 4 stars because it's average in quality compared to other similar toy-grade RCs of this class - and the fact that it has metal body panels. Read more
