Years ago I made the smart decision to pick up a very basic "Arborist" kit that included chaps and a helmet with a mesh metal face shield and earmuffs. I've dropped many, many trees since then as my property has quite a bit of dead Ash trees, and while I've thankfully not had to test the durability of the chainsaw chaps, I've certainly benefited from having a helmet on while cutting out the big dead trees. Branches that are already broken off but hung up in the canopy of the dead trees have a tendency to shake loose as a tree starts to lean and fall, and having a helmet on can be the difference between a headache versus a trip to the emergency department (or the morgue). My old helmet had taken enough bumps (and had soaked up more than enough sweat) that I decided it was time to get a new one, and this helmet is a pretty solid upgrade from the basic, one-piece, non-vented original helmet. It's lightweight yet sturdy, and has notches in all the usual spots to allow you to add on earmuffs, a face shield, a forehead light, or whatever combo you need. The internal suspension is nice and comfortable. I would deduct half-a-star because the webbing for the chinstraps is not double-stitched and the first time I ordered this helmet the stitching tore while I was adjusting it. However, it seems that may have been a one-off quality-assessment issue as the replacement has held up well while I've used it. The biggest improvement I see in this helmet compared to my original one is the adjustable venting. I wear pants, long sleeves, gloves, chaps, and the helmet when I'm doing my amateur arborist activities, which means I get sweaty pretty quick. The venting on the helmet really makes a big difference in letting that head dissipate and helps keep the sweat on my head evaporating rather than dripping in my eyes and fogging up my eye protection. But the thing that should really sell you on this helmet, in addition to everything I've just mentioned, is the incredibly affordable price they've got it listed at ($26.99 at the time of writing this review, with a $5.40 coupon available as well). There's just no good reason to skimp on your PPE when it's decent quality and an incredibly low price. Now don't get me wrong, this helmet is not gonna save you from a tree landing on you, nor will it do much if a big heavy branch drops on you. But it's gonna protect your scalp from the smaller branches dropping out of a tree and from any larger chunks of wood that might fly around while you're chopping up logs. Don't risk your health and safety. Wear PPE and get yourself a helmet! Read more

Maybe my head just hasn't broken in to this hardhat, but after a long day of wearing it I tend to get a bit sore where it rests on my scalp. It does start off very comfortable, and the adjustment range is generous. Once fitted, it doesn't shift much. The little bit it does shift over the day... it may be me, or maybe I need to make it tighter, or just get used to this style. Given the price ($25 at time of review), it is a reasonably priced hard hat for those that need a non-token hat that they aren't going to wear all day. While I didn't have anything hefty attempt to knock me in the bean, the outer shell seems adequate to protect from small to medium sized objects. I'm not sure it would stand up to a large wrench off a crane - I've witnessed the aftermath of that scenario on plastic that was a bit more substantial than this. But that's not what this is designed for anyway. Read more

This helmet fits well. Easily adjusts for just the right fit. Color is as pictured and bright for safety. Comfortable to wear. Luckily haven't taken any hits to test that part. But is good and sturdy. Overall impressed with quality. Read more

This fit well, with plenty of range for smaller or larger heads. I spent about five minutes getting the various straps adjusted to my liking, but it wasn't too difficult to get the chin strap correctly positioned while keeping the other straps away from my ears. The chin strap helps keep this on my head without causing headaches that I'm accustomed to from relying only on the tightness of the headband to keep hard hats in place. The operable vents are a nice feature. Read more

This is a high visibility, comfortable, protective helmet. It is lightweight, easy to adjust, and allows some air flow. It looks good and could be used at the construction site, rock climbing or anywhere else where you may need some additional protection. Read more

I was looking forward to trying out this style of hard hat but this one is not for me. The construction of the hard hat is good, the adjuster turns easily and the hat is comfortable. The problem I have with the hat is that it sits too high on my head and there is no apparent way to adjust the webbing. Read more

This is a fantastic hard hat! I have a very big noggin, and when a hat fits this pumpkinhead, it's a keeper! More often than not for me, these hard hats don't always fit very well, or they're fully extended to make it fit, etc. This one fits and has a LOT of room to spare. The dial, or ratchet, wheel is very smooth operating with positive clicking positions. The padding is really well designed and arranged, it fits very well, comfortable AND secure! The chin piece is a soft silicone which also form fits like a glove and is very comfortable as well. As most hard hats, this is designed to protect from overhead blows, not too much from the side as it sits high on the head. The adjustment for the inner support system is easy and uses the snap peg/hole system similar to that found on the back of a trucker hat, only this is much more secure and really keeps it in place. In the pictures, I show how to remove the 2 main side pieces which connect the straps to the shell. They are firmly in place and require a gentle "pry" with a small flat blade to release them, 2 clips per side. This makes it easy to adjust as well as clean. Another nice feature are the top vents on each side! In the pics, you can see one which shows clearly the 2 triangle openings, and the small lever which moves up and down to open or close those vents. VERY nice on hot days!! Not a feature I've seen before, but very welcome! To sum it up, this is a really well designed, well made hard hat that looks great, fits great, and has features that aren't found on many other hard hats. I absolutely recommend this hat to all, but especially for those like me who have an XL melon and find it frustrating to find hats that fit. THIS is the one!! Read more
