UPDATE 1/2017: I recommend this drive for anyone wanting more gobs of disk space in their laptop, it is completely silent, does not run hot (on 24/7), no disk errors of any kind (and I have a lot of data on this thing, so it gets much more intensive use than an "ordinary" Windows installation) so very reliable, and so far has given me a better experience than any other 2.5 inch drive I'd ever used. Upping this thing from 4 to 5 stars :) ORIGINAL REVIEW: I had no intention of posting a review on a hard disk within days of installing it, but I suppose that shows how life imitates art.... I bought this Spinpoint in order to clone the load of a HGST Travelstar 0S03563 1TB SATA Hard Drive Kit I bought for my Lenovo laptop at the end of 2013, so I could transfer all that to a new laptop later this year. When I ran the clone, Acronis' software showed errors on the source disk, and I ended up spending a couple of days cleaning up and repairing the "old" drive, which indeed had run out of spare clusters (I should add that HGST replaced the Travelstar under warranty - "running out of spare clusters" means the drive is going bad). Now that I have installed the new Spinpoint, I find it is far less noisy than the Travelstar, and the laptop runs less hot, as well. Some of that may be due to the Spinpoint's rotational speed, 5400, versus the 7200 the Travelstar runs at, but there is a clear difference (I should emphasize I am one of those nerds who periodically opens up and vacuums computers). I get the impression the Spinpoint is a little slower than the Travelstar, but if that means (I'll update as needed, of course) it will last longer, fine. For the Travelstar to begin failing within three years after purchase isn't really what I had expected, and for drives to take 1 and 2 terabytes of data, the risk of data loss gets exponentially larger, and the amount of time needed to clone or restore can easily take a working day out of your life. Regardless, nice drive, easy install, the DiscWizard software does an admirable job of finding drive issues, and I am truly impressed by the complete absence of drive noises, I tend to listen to the heads move on every new drive I get, and with this drive, I just can't hear anything at all. I tried, honest ;) Read more

Have had this in my PS4 for over a year and works flawlessly. Love having all this storage space and not having to worry about filling it up after every install. As I rent and purchase numerous games, so the standard drive would fill up quickly. If you want a tad more performance but 1TB less space. You can go with the Seagate 1TB Laptop Gaming SSHD (Solid State Hybrid Drive) SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache 2.5-Inch Internal Bare Drive (ST1000LM014). I went for the space because of two reasons: 1. When I got the drive, they did not make SSHD's thin enough to get in the PS4 cage. 2. Even if I decided to purchase one now. The speeds in comparison, are not enough to justify the change. Seconds are not worth it. 3. You could also, go with the SSD. But, again...The seconds to me. Are not worth it. Plus, the PS4's OS is not really optimized for the SSD TRIM and other SSD NAND functions to optimize the full potential of the speed of the drive. These are test results done by IGN from each of the drives: Standard PS4 HDD, Samsung 840 EVO-Series 250GB SSD, and a Seagate 1TB SSD/HD ST1000LM014 (one listed above). I realize that this is tested with the PS4's HDD. But, they are essentially the same specs in read/write output on the drives. The only thing differentiating the two is the capacity of the drives. I listed this as reference. Battlefield 4 (Disc) Stock HDD Install Time 1:03.39 Boot Time 0:10.30 Level Load 0:31.48 Hybrid SSHD Install Time 1:13.12 Boot Time 0:10.88 Level Load 0:33.58 SSD Install Time 1:02.77 Boot Time 0:10.50 Level Load 0:31.33 NFS: Rivals (Disc) Stock HDD Install Time 0:29.60 Boot Time 0:19.06 Level Load 0:22.66 Hybrid SSHD Install Time 0:40.72 Boot Time 0:20.70 Level Load 0:15.88 SSD Install Time 0:26.33 Boot Time 0:19.38 Level Load 0:19.01 Resogun (Digital) Stock HDD Install Time N/A Boot Time 0:11.55 Level Load 0:07.06 Hybrid SSHD Install Time N/A Boot Time 0:11.66 Level Load 0:07.15 SSD Install Time N/A Boot Time 0:09.75 Level Load 0:06.90 Ultimately it is all subjective and up to you the user. I just did not think that a couple of secs was worth spending another 700 dollars on an SSD for the same amount of space as a standard HDD. Also, as I mentioned above. If you buy an SSD on the PS4 and it does not enable TRIM on the drive because of it not having support. It can cause deterioration of space on the drive if not managed. So as an example, you put a game on the SSD, and it takes up 30 gigs. You decide you are no longer playing that game and want to remove it. It may be removed from the interface, but without TRIM, the drive will see it as "not in use", but hold the space. Read more

Based on earlier Amazon reviews citing successful installations of this hard drive in TIVO Bolts, I decided to give it a try. Due to the cheap method used by TIVO in the creation of the Bolt's covers, installation of the hard drive was a little more difficult than expected. However, once the covers were removed the hard drive installation went smoothly and quickly. Soon after plugging in the power cord, the TIVO began its initial startup routine. After entering the basic configuration information, the TIVO continued through the startup routine and performed flawlessly. Even the previously installed cable card was fully operational, and no configuration changes were required. As a result, I can readily recommend this hard drive to anyone who needs repair or upgrade a TIVO Bolt. Read more

My PlayStation works with it. The extra space is great and the set up is easy. It does make a little more noise but for the extra space is not even a problem really and it only happens in long sessions and my set up is not ideal for the air flow. The noise wasn't there before or at least I didn't notices it. Read more
