Drive is indeed brand new and arrived well protected. You should have cables and screws at the ready since this listing does not include any but the drive itself. The hard disk arrives uninitialized. You have to boot up disk management (in windows) and it will prompt immediately to initialize the drive, which I did with MBR and NTFS. Pity there’s no manual, but lucky me I know the process. July 9 2019 Bought 2TB HD as replacement for failing drive in a small-form-factor desktop. Product was new (unused-not refurb), as advertised. It is about as quiet as the quietest desktop hard drive I've had: not silent, but ignorable. The drive arrived uninitialized, but required no special software to partition and format it.
