Working great with SmartThings!

dustinJanuary 24, 2020

No Alexa or Sengled hub, running strictly off SmartThings. Was simple to add and has worked exactly how it should since we plugged it in. This is operating a small desk lamp in our spare bedroom and since the girlfriends schedule is a little different, she will often times sleep in there. This plug has worked great for when she wants to read a book once in bed and then turn the light off remotely. We will likely buy more of these, such a great deal compared to the SmartThings offerings. Read more

Plugs Stopped Working, Roundabout Fix

EliottMarch 21, 2024

I had 3 plugs set up in outlets. Last week they stopped working. Here is the REAL way to fix and re-discover through Alexa and NOT the Sengled Home app or its new Sengled Bluetooth app. Neither will work! 1) Reset your switch by holding for 5 seconds and you will see the purple light blink 5x times. Hold for 8-15 seconds for a hard reset. I tried that, too. 2) Ask Alexa to “Discover Devices” 3) Go into your Phone Settings > Alexa App 4) Toggle OFF “Bluetooth” and “Local Network” 5) Go back to Setting page 6) Return to Phone Settings > Alexa App 7) Turn ON “Bluetooth” and “Local Network” Alexa should discover the plug now. It took me an hour to figure this out. Hopefully it’ll help y’all. Overall, they do the job but the setup is atrocious and not easy whatsoever. Still 4-stars. Read more

CANNOT SCHEDULE WITHOUT ALEXA

JaneApril 1, 2023

First off, I have Sengled lightbulbs and they are great. They work with the Sengled home app. However, these plugs only work with the Sengled Bluetooth app, meaning your phone has to be nearby with Bluetooth on to control the plugs, since they are not Wi-Fi plugs. That’s not so so bad, I’m home often. But the Sengled Bluetooth app does not have scheduling capabilities! It literally only has an on and off button. So if you are in the house, you can turn the plug on or off from across the house, that’s it. This makes it false advertising for me, as you need an Alexa to schedule the plugs. I tried the Alexa app, but no, you need the actual device. Read more

It works w/o internet access.

Robert ToffFebruary 19, 2022

I now have the T-Mobile Home Internet. This is 5Ghz and my Echo Dot Alexa stopped recognizing my 2.4Ghz smart plugs. I ordered a Broadline 5Ghz plug from Amazon and had to send it back after trying a dozen times to get my Echo Dot Alexa to recognize it. I finally bought a Sengled Bluetooth Smart Plug Compatible with Alexa. Plugged it in, told Alexa to 'discover device'. In about a minute later Alexa told me she found the device (called it a 'switch' rather than a plug). Alexa then told me how to use it. After I plugged my lamp into the device and turned on the lamp, I told Alexa to 'turn off the switch'. It turned off! I then told Alexa to 'turn on the switch'. It turned on. I then changed the name to 'Plug' via the Alexa app, to be the same as my deleted 2.4 plug. Remember, this Sengled device attaches to the Echo via Bluetooth, not the internet; so, you need to be within Bluetooth distance, less than 30 feet or so. Very cool, very easy to install and very highly rated by me!! Read more

Not the greatest

L CranstonJanuary 18, 2022

These plugs work ok … when they work. I bought a four-pack. I wanted to connect two lights, one in each bedroom and thought having a couple extra for future use was a good idea. Turned out, I needed the extras now. Plugged them in and waited for Alexa to find them. The first plug I tried wouldn't connect to either of the lights at all. Just failed out of the box. The next two are ok--sort of. One works fine all the time. The other not so much. It frequently won't connect. Tried in both rooms with similar outcomes. At first, I attributed the sporadic function to some sort of interference with the Christmas lights plugged in the same outlet. Then Christmas was over, and lights put away, but the plug still functioned intermittently. Then I thought it might be a "line of sight" issue. Nope. Most annoying, because it'll work function fine, then ten minutes later say the lamp isn't responding. Very odd....and annoying. I haven't yet tried the fourth plug. I have to say that my first smart plug was an Amazon plug for my living room and it has never failed to function, even though the plug is about 25ft away from Alexa. These Sengled plugs are only a 1-2 feet from the lights. So now it’s a year later and both plugs never improved. Still intermittent. Read more

Zigbee smart switch, rated for use with heavy duty appliances

The EngineerAugust 1, 2019

Ohm’s Law says: P=IE Where P = power in watts, I = current in amperes, and E = voltage in volts. When looking for a smart plug, that can handle a “heavy duty” appliance (first picture); it is important that you choose a plug that has an OUTPUT CAPACITY of 1,800 watts. The Sengled smart plug meets that requirement. Ohm’s Law: 1,800 watts = 15 amperes * 120 volts ALL smart plugs are rated ON THE WALL OUTLET SIDE for 15 amperes at 120 volts, but not many are rated for the full 1,800 watts on the controlled outlet side. Not only is this smart plug compact; so is the packaging it comes in (second picture). All six sides of the box have printed information! And for the most part, setup is literally a “plug and play” experience (it’s SmartThings certified); so long as you don’t get excited, and just “plug it in,” before being prompted to by your Zigbee hub integration procedure. If you need to reinitialize the plug, simply hold the power button for 10 seconds, while the unit is plugged in. Also, DO NOT plug any appliances into the smart plug, until AFTER it has been paired to your Zigbee hub. Read more
