We have used this for years in our bedrooms and it really helps with our allergies. I've got the smaller version for my daughter's room. Make sure to get some good quality citric acid to clean the humidifier filter monthly and this thing will last forever. Good food grade citric acid is available here on Amazon and that's what I use, along with a 5 gallon HD bucket. I use the water tank for this thing to weight down the filters carefully so they stay fully submerged. Its not very loud and creates a light white noise for you that isn't too obtrusive. The filters all last a pretty long time and have different change frequencies outlined in the manual. You can get all of the filters from here on Amazon. My allergies are so bad I have to get weekly allergy shots and this really helps. I was also able to get a letter of medical necessity from my allergist so we could claim this on our medical FSA. The auto sensor is very effective at detecting odors and the plasmacluster system noticeably improves air quality. Excellent humidifying function as well, and everything runs very quietly. Read more

I think this air purifier/humidifier is worth the money. You can barely hear it running. The air is so much cleaner. I've noticed my husband and one of our house pets has stop sneezing. Very simple easy to use controls (that I love) easy to fill water reservoir. We have two lap dogs and a cat in the house and its so hard to keep the pet hair swept up. The hair was always blowing around but with the humidity being higher its easier to sweep and keep house cleaner. Love it. Read more

i've been using this for a day now, i know it's not a fair test i suppose, but if i wait a week i'll probably never review it. anyway i gave this a 4 because i don't like the air sucking from the back, it has no remote, it's expensive, and the lights don't dim when the lights are off, in fact the top ones stay on. i chose this one over winix because sharp invented the plasmacluster and i think they are stronger, and you can turn the stream on. i chose the humidifier because i do need extra moisture in the winter, the hepa showed it had a longer life and you can wash the pre-filter. noise: on low, you can barely hear it, you have to put your ear up to it. you know it's on because plasmacluster clicks. sort of a light ticking sound, like a tiny arc. but constant. on med, its louder, more like a soft computer fan, it's a hush from a distance of about 3' away, like a spring breeze. the cluster however changes tone - on and off in 1.5 second intervals. the sound is similar to that of a quill pen scratching across paper. annoying, but not overly so. you can't hear it from a distance of about 10' but it's there. i was hoping the louder fan (i like a little white noise), would hush it out, but the cluster just gets louder. on max - it's a bit over bearing to listen too, like a hair dryer. on pollen - it surges high and low, like a rolling wave. it's hypnotic and distracting. the instruction are confusing in this mode and quick clean where you need or don't need water in the tank. it seems to work without. on auto, it stays on low unless its needed to be faster. the odor detector works, i had to use it like chloroform and place it in a tissue of the sensor. vinegar made the green light blink. wintergreen alcohol made the unit angry and the lights turned orange to red. so that seems to work i haven't used the humidifier yet, it doesn't hold a lot of water, so i don't have high hopes for this. as an air cleaner the room is fresher - keep in mind for the first 6 hours or so the room will smell like a cross between a dept store and a pool. a deep chlorine smell. it is absorbed by the unit though. plasmacluster has many claims - removes static, makes your skin moister by placing a layer of water molecules over the skin and prevents evaporation (i find that hard to believe). they say it kills some viruses, mold and smells in the air. it can even clean the scent from cloth. i did test that last one, i have a beaver skin that had a perfume scent in it. and in 20 hours that perfume is gone. so if you have a lover that left a perfume note or pillow case - that scent will be gone quickly. someone complained about asthma and plasma - no issues here... however my eyes are very dry. someone mentioned that their air seems to get dryer with the plasma on. and this also seems true. with the door closed in my room, i started with 50% humidity, now it's 40%. which is probably why my eyes are dry. oh and though i mentioned it, turning the lights off only turns the decorations off in the front. not the top lights, though they look dim, they are bright enough to cast green circles on the ceiling. it's rather annoying. i would rather have everything turn off when the lights go out. you still need the panel on to tell you your out of water. though the tank on the side does seem to have a window. the water basin btw looks tricky to clean. Purchased this product (KC850U) in 2015 - used about 5 months each year in the hot dry season. Works really well for use in bedroom while sleeping. Now the BAD: my unit still works fine except a Styrofoam Float (bottom of page E-17 in owners manual) is on its last legs. This is an item that needs to be cleaned. I have tried to get a replacement part with no success - so I have a good running machine that needs an inexpensive part and not able to obtain it. Calling SHARP support is terrible, they say they do not sell to consumers and recommend a 3rd party that does not offer the part, and the ones they do have say unavailable. BEWARE customer support for this unit seems to be non-existent. I realize I've had mine a long time, but you would expect them to have parts support for units that are still sold - this unit is still available for purchase here and on the SHARP website. Read more

This is certainly a high quality product than can filter the air well. My problem is with the humidifier function, it features a spinning wheel type filter which absorbs the water, you can hear this spinning at night very clearly and there is no way to get rid of the sound without turning off the humidifier function. Couple that with the loud "gurgling" sounds of the water tank every so often and it just was too much to hear at night. We ended up returning the product and going with the Brondell Revive. Read more
