We had an "older" GE "over the counter" (OTC) microwave that worked fine though I was updating the appliances for the kitchen and this SHARP fit the dimensions under the cabinet almost perfectly, sticks out 1/2". Appliances are not easy to look at on line even with the "enlarge" feature. This is one of few OTC models that is truly OTC and not over the range. This SHARP definitely looks better in person than the photos and it works great too. It makes slightly more noise than our old GE but the new and improved features far out weigh a little noise, might be the fact that this one rotates and the other was "br" or before rotation. The digital touch pad is very easy to use and looks neat and clean. Push the "Start" button to automatically cook for 1 minute, touch it twice for 2 minutes. It has OTC lights underneath and "ease of use" buttons for popcorn etc. SHARPS are known to be simple, elegant and well made. We hope it lasts a long time like our old one (the "Antiques Road Show" model as our contractor called it) and serves its purpose well. I would definitely order another one and will if the opportunity presents itself. Read more

First let me explain why I purchased the Sharp "OTC". We recently updated our kitchen and decided on a standard hood vent for above our stove. When it came time to replace our Microwave that had been sitting on the counter, we wanted one that was a "space saver", i.e. Over-the-counter. There were very few to choose from! So we decided to go with the sharp. I have not been disappointed at all! I was originally concerned about the installation. It was a breeze. The sharp is a nice size microwave as well, not a compact. As for the 5 stars I've given it, I have very little complaints. Pros: Big & powerful. Fairly easy to install. Great price (as compaired to Over the Stove types). This model has many great features as well. Sensor reheating, presets for popcorn, frozen foods,..etc. Cons: Sensor reheat over heats food just slightly. Some reheating features are slightly complicated to use, so I don't bother. (lots of button combinations that I can't seem to remember yet) I hope this was helpful. *** Update *** 7/23/2012 I wanted to update my entry for this microwave oven. The oven just stopped working. Timer would continue, but no fan or microwaves (cooking). I assumed it was an internal fuse or short. It was going to cost me a minimum of $150 or more, so I decided to just purchase another one. I still do like this Microwave oven very much. It is easy to use and cooks very well. I only wish it lasted more than it before giving up the ghost. That is why I lowered this rating to 4 stars. I do which there were more choices for an over the counter microwave. One bonus was that since I still had the mounting plate installed, putting the new in took under 3 minutes! Read more

We bought this Sharp R-1211 microwave to replace the same model microwave oven we had purchased in 2007. We had used it daily for 18 years but the door switch finally went on it. We were so happy to be able to still get the same model we had previously because this oven is great. I love the sensor cook feature which cooks everything perfectly. I am hoping it will last another 18 years! Read more

Don’t buy! Had it for 14 months worked fine, then Stopped working. It would turn on and the fan would work but no heat. Thinking the magnetron is blown. The warrentee is for only one year and the extended warrantee doesn’t work. Called the three shops sharp referred me to and each one said they wouldn’t work on them and viewed them as disposable. Way too expensive for that and customer support was awful. Read more

I needed a small microwave for a studio apartment remodel. This was the smallest wall mounted microwave I could find and it’s the perfect size if you need it for a small space, as I did - it’s sleek and compact. I was going to take the chance and install over a range after reading other reviews and Q&As where people said they managed even though it has no built in ventilation/circulation for over the range, but ended up returning upon delivery because of damage. I had ordered an Amazon Warehouse version of this product which had been clearly described as very good condition in original undamaged box - no product damage was mentioned. Was disappointed to receive the box with a very small hole in one corner and the door of the microwave had a small dent on the edge directly behind where the box had been damaged, so unfortunately I returned. I’ve had great luck with other Amazon Warehouse purchases, and think it may have just been bad luck that a previously undamaged product may have just been damaged en route to me. Read more
