This is the first pillow I've had that's made of memory foam bits, and it's an interesting product. It actually feels more solid than I would've expected, but it's still malleable. It's not as easily shaped as a down pillow—you have to put some effort into kneading and lumping it how you want it—but it holds that shape better. I definitely prefer it to the pillows I've tried that are made of a solid piece of memory foam (you have to get really lucky for those to be perfectly shaped for your individual needs, and I've never found one that wasn't disappointing on some level). Coming from a down pillow, this one is stiffer, but not uncomfortably so. It's also hotter. But while I immediately noticed the warmth underneath my head, it's not excessive, and it hasn't actually been a problem for me (and it's currently summer, and with a fan circulating the air in my room, I'm comfortable keeping the temperature in the 78-80 degree range, so if the pillow would ever be too hot for me, it'd be now). The pillow comes with extra foam bits, in case you want to make it thicker/stiffer, but I actually think it's a bit on the thick side as it is. I may eventually end up pulling some bits out of the pillow, but it's tolerable now, and I want to get more used to it before deciding whether it's necessary to mess around with that. As it is, I've dug an indention in the middle of the pillow for my head, and pushed some of the stuffing towards the sides. As advised, I let the pillow sit for a day before using it, but I'm not sure I really needed to wait that long. There wasn't much of a smell when I unsealed it, and it looked like it expanded to its full size pretty quickly. The case the pillow is zipped into is attractive and kind of fancy looking, so I've not been putting a pillowcase over it. I've measured the pillow, and it looks to be approximately 27 inches by 17 inches, 2 inches shorter in each dimension than advertised, though maybe that's how far the case extends when it's empty. Regardless, the pillow is plenty big and maybe even too big for some people, though I actually like it like that. So far, I think it's one of the better, more comfortable pillows I've owned (though I've honestly been rather disappointed with a lot of those), but I'm not ready to put it above a good down pillow. I also want to see how it works for me long-term before giving it my highest endorsement, so for now I'm giving it 4 stars, but if it's leaning in one direction, it's definitely towards 5 and not 3.
