These pics do not do this Kochi Ceremonial Matcha justice- did take them in a later afternoon sunlight from our family room window. I just got this wonderful matcha today and had to try out immediately. The matcha was packed in a foil tucked neatly under an additional, inner plastic lid. Upon opening, I did have an aroma of nuttiness with some dark chocolate, whisked easily with no graininess leftover. The color was nice, bright green with the slightest yellow tone. Taste wise, it was an elevated umami, with notes of chocolate (not dark in flavor), some creaminess but short lived, overall medium bodied. I did experience some astringency with the faintest/sophisticated bitterness that honestly did not take away from this delicious matcha but one that’s akin to Ippodo’s Sayaka- I would definitely prefer Sugimoto’s Matcha Kochi over, undoubtedly, just on bitterness behavior in my palate alone! I am so glad I tried! I highly recommend :) Read more

One of the richest and smoothest matcha out there, a little bit sweet which is exactly what I wanted, the color is perfect and it tastes absolutely delicious, would definitely repurchase again Read more

I got this tea for adding to baked products like bread. It’s in a nice tin and comes well sealed. It seems to be very high quality. The color is beautiful! I personally wouldn’t use this as a drinking tea unless I added something like honey to it, I find the taste quite bitter. Read more

I am so impressed with this matcha! I have been a matcha drinker for several years, but I only started making it at home about 1.5yrs ago. So, I’m no expert, but I’m also not a beginner. It’s been hard to find high grade matcha lately without paying for shipping from Japan, so I was excited to find a company that is accessible to US consumer base (and located in my area too!) This matcha is great if you prefer to drink it hot as usucha and also makes a fantastic unsweetened iced latte. I didn’t enjoy it as koicha, but it’s not my usual method of consumption anyway. Upon opening the tin, I immediately smelled chocolate notes, so I knew it was going to be good! The primary flavor listed on the tin is umami, but I wasn’t able to discern that so much. If that’s something you are wary of, I have found matcha powders with much stronger seaweed-ier notes before. I think the other notes in this tea balance out the umami, so it’s well-rounded. It’s creamy & nutty without much bitterness, and mild but not light. Overall I really recommend this matcha whether you are new to drinking matcha or not. I am excited to try other teas from Sugimoto, and I look forward to next year’s spring edition matcha! Read more

I now understand the difference not only in color but taste of good quality matcha. This is very smooth, had a nuttiness to it & sweet. Not sweet as in sugary but sweet as to where I didn’t really need to add any kind of sweetener to it. The color very bright green, and it blended very well no clumps at all Read more

This matcha tastes pretty good and is less bitter than some others I’ve tried recently. It has enough umami with a fresh matcha taste, so I don't feel like I'm missing out too much. The powder mixes into a vivid green tea, but it tends to leave clumpy particles, unlike my other matchas that dissolve more easily. You’ll want to pay extra attention to whisking this well to minimize the clumpy sediments. The packaging is top-notch, with a shipping foil inside the storage can. It is not organic, but some of the best-tasting matchas I’ve tried, which cost much more, also aren’t organic. However, for health reasons, I’d like to know what chemicals I’m exposed to when drinking a costly tea. It would be helpful to see some information stating that pesticides are not used or other reasons why this isn’t organic. Nevertheless, the matcha taste aligns with its price point and is much superior to commonly found store-bought options. Read more
