Good quality, better than expected, does the job
These are good boots. I ordered a size 9 because I typically wear a 8.5 and there are not half sizes available. I was afraid a 9 would be way too big but obviously an 8 would probably be too tight and being too big is better than too tight. In the end, I can wear these with tights alone if I really needed to...even though they are a little loose that way, I was not stepping out of them or the like. But one typically wears socks in the winter and doing so takes up the extra space pretty well. (And of course one can always use other sorts on insoles & inserts to take up space if need be.) So I'll just wear low socks that won't show over the top. The tread is adequate, looks like it will last a long time, and makes me feel safer in the winter on different surfaces. The whole boot seems built to last. I especially like the little arc of reflective material of the back of the heels. It isn't so much that it'll interfere with style...in fact I think it is a thoughtful touch that helps with style...and it just could be the detail that makes me (and you) safer. I used to get boots that had a more slender calf or went up higher, but often they felt too tight unless there was an extra zipper to help with sizing rather than just closure. But this boot has a generous calf area. It might not be as sleek-looking as some boots, but they still look good and they are easier to get on and off and wear than some boots I have had before.
