I live in the U.S. and bought this for a trip to India and Egypt. I was not aware I needed something like this vs a simple adapter. This "steps down" the power of a 220 outlet so that it does not fry your U.S. 110 products. If you just use an adapter to make the prongs fit the plug, you will be sending the full 220 through your product that is set to run on 110. I used a set of heat rollers that did get hotter than they ever have in the U.S., but they did not fry out and worked fine once back in the U.S. The pictures makes this look big, but it's lightweight and fit easily in my checked bag. The USB and C charging ports on the side were also helpful for charging phones and laptops. The extra adapters that come with it were not needed because the plug on the unit was the correct style for my location and I only used the plugs on the unit. Did not work well at our hotel in England. Also, you will typically need multiple (3-4) adapters of the same type for a visit to another country, not one type for multiple countries. Read more
Was on a recent trip to Southern Africa, and utilized the type G plug. The unit worked great and contributed to having charged phones and cameras and power banks every day of our trip. Overningt I was able to connect a travel CPAP machine to the unit (200W outlet) and charge all of my electronic devices overnight (built in USB A ports and C port). The 2KW outlets worked great for a hair iron that my wife used. In all this device is going to be a part of our overseas travel kit, will not leave home without it. Read more
