Like my title says, who would have thought that a game set in a magical Warsaw with dower, unlikable spirit magicians who collect monsters like a weird Poke Mon exorcist would be created, let alone be good. And yet, that’s exactly what happened. Seriously, this story idea is bonkers, yet it work really well. This game is at its best when it focuses on Warsaw in all its dark angst and sometimes surprising warmth and humanity. It’s at its worst when the smaller studio budget reveals wonky and inconsistent voice overs from supporting characters who may be American, Polish, or some strange mix. That was jarring to me. Of course, I am being picky and these few rough moments don’t ruin what is otherwise a fun game with some really cool and new ideas that still remain familiar enough to not make this totally weird. Perhaps its few flaws, including a somewhat repetitive turn based fighting system, stick out more because the rest of the game is so wonderfully emo. The studio clearly has a love for its own history, being a Polish company, and aren’t afraid to think outside the box and take a chance. Sherlock with mind tricks in a mystical and politically complicated Warsaw. Have fun! 5 stars from an indie studio. 4 stars compared to successful AAA games like the Witcher. Read more
