It's fast. I had no trouble installing it, though I did have an issue getting it to register, but only because I forgot to set it up in my BIOS. Transfer rate is excellent (especially considering it's a standard HDD, not an SSD). I would buy it again, although I'll probably never need that much storage again. Read more

What the hell Toshiba. Your QA is slipping. This is my 3rd drive under your brand and the biggest @ 10TB. 34 days and 19 hours of power on time. Failure Predicted - Attribute: 7 Seek Error Rate, Rate of positioning errors of the read/write heads. Indicate problem with servo, head. High temperature can also cause this problem. Replace hard disk immediately. It is recommended to backup immediately to prevent data loss. I had to disable smart checking in BIOS to get back into windows. Now Im scrambling to get all all my movies off this drive before I lose her. :( C'mon guys , do BETTER! UPDATE - 7-23-2019. They replaced this drive 48 hours after failure. The replacement is doing great! Read more

I am not spending much time posting that review since I just received the drive about 30mn ago. It took me about 5mn to turn off my desktop, open it, unplug my DVD player (yes they still exist) and plug the hard drive instead (My computer caser is pretty full). After rebooting the PC, I went to the Disk management tool (right click on startup), identified the new drive (Disk management showed it to me directly) and formatted it. I am already copying the about 8TB of data that I wanted to duplicate. I am really impressed so far for a Hard drive with platters. Directory Opus is showing me a peak transfer speed of 227MB/s and an average speed of 176MB/s after transferring 170GB in 16mn. If the speed remains constant, that means that one can transfer about 700 GB in one hour. That is way better than what I was used to with other hard drives. I have read many comments complaining about this hard drive failing after a while and I indeed cannot comment on this yet. That would be indeed very bad but nothing so critical to someone having backups (like anyone should do). That Toshiba does not stand by its warranty is a different issue which I have not encountered yet. So, at this stage and only based on my personal experience (as reviews should be anyway), I am giving 5 stars to this drive for the very large capacity (I am reviewing the 10TB HD), the best price on Amazon (especially after the Prime Day rebate of $75) and the excellent transfer speeds for this type of drive. I am adding a snapshot of my transfer speeds and CrystaldiskMark to this review. Read more

There is something really fishy going on with the drive I bought. It has some sort of terrible APM (power saving features) enabled on a hardware level, which absolutely cripple the performance. I believed Toshiba is either reselling eco drives as gaming drives (very shady) or these drives just have terrible power saving tech integrated, which makes them COMPLETELY unusable for gaming. The drive constantly freezes for several milliseconds while some sort of head parking / spindown operation happens. During games that stream data from the disk (many games) the game will freeze for several frames every 3-5 seconds. Obviously this is unusable. The APM features can be mostly disabled with software, but it is only temporary, and resets when the computer goes to sleep or is restarted. It also doesn't completely disable the APM features, so occasional freezing will still happen at really frustrating moments. I'm guessing one of three things is going on: 1. The drives have "eco" tech or "green" tech that is not advertised in the product listing, despite the drive being labelled as "high performance" and ready for pc gaming. (very shady) 2. I received a different eco / green type drive that was relabeled and re-sold as a high performance / gaming drive. (fraudulent) 3. I received a counterfeit drive (least likely, but maybe possible) I'm surprised I haven't seen more people complaining about the APM features, I'm guessing a lot of people just use this for mass storage and not for gaming. As a pure mass storage drive, it is okay, but unbelievably loud, easily the loudest drive I've ever seen. I replaced it with a WD Black which is almost silent in comparison. Needless to say, DO NOT buy this Toshiba drive for gaming. I spent $190 for this and now I'm stuck with a completely useless for gaming hard drive. If you buy one, test it thoroughly before the return window closes. Unfortunately it is really hard to test for APM features, because it will not become obvious during normal benchmarks, and only becomes visible during specific games or workloads. Read more

UPDATE: Appeared to work for a bit, but now I'm getting "Error 0x80070b1" if I try to access a folder on that drive. Looks like I'm shipping it back. ORIGINAL: If your drive is missing after you resume from sleep mode in Window 11, follow these steps: Edit Power Plan > Change advanced power settings > Sleep > Allow hybrid sleep = Off. Reboot and you should be able to resume from sleep without having to reboot. Read more
