A month ago I would have written one of those "don't waste your money" kind of reviews because I went through two these within a month. The first one lasted a couple weeks before my wife said, "I hate to tell you this, but the dyer isn't heating." Grrr! But before I got too upset, I thought maybe I hadn't installed it correctly (it's easy to install if you have even basic DIY skills so I was fairly sure that wasn't the problem, but hey, even superman gets it wrong occasionally) Anyway, I ordered a second one and installed it. (Much easier and quicker the second time.) But then a week later, my wife said, "I hate to tell you...." So once again I took everything apart. (Way faster the third time! By now I could do it with my eyes closed.) To my surprise, the heating element wasn't burned out. A few minutes with the multi tested confirmed the element was fine, but the thermostat (not its real name, but it's something close to that) was defective. I had replaced this little thermo doohickey when I replaced the element but it had burned out. When it goes kaput, it tells the heating element not to get all hot and bothered which means the clothes don't get dry. So here's the thing: You'll see in the listing that the heating element also has three other tiny parts. Replace them all--which I did. So why did the thermostat fail? Lint! Too much lint had built up in the dryer vent line. NOT the silly Slinky looking thing that runs from the back of the dryer to the opening in your wall, but the line that runs inside the walls (in my situation) and outside. CLEAN the line. They make a cute little brush for that exact purpose. (About $20 on Amazon.) Because the hot air from the dryer couldn't vent properly, heat built up and the thermostat actually did what it was supposed to do--it failed, which sent a message to the heating element to take rest. All this is a very long way of saying this element is a great value and worth the money. It comes with some other parts so be sure to replace them. And clean your vent line. Read more

I think the title answers the first question what model do you have and did it fit. It did fit my model DV45H7000EW/A2 direct replacement. 2nd question do we have the same problem. My clothes weren't drying and the dryer stopped getting hot. The machine still has display and it spun as it normally should. My heating element had a broken coil, showed up as no conductivity before disassembled and was visually easy to see once the casing was open. Both my thermal switches displayed continuity so I didn't use the new ones. There were four included two looked like direct replacements and two were completely different (I'm assuming for other models) There are a lot of YouTube videos on this some make it seem harder than it is. Buy a set of nylon trim removal tools for cars. They make popping the top open easy and don't scratch it up like a metal tool will. Also most sets or tools less than ten bucks. You do need to open the top and remove both the front cover and the support structure underneath (probably ten Phillips screws) and unhook the pulley and lift the drum out. The heater element assembly is underneath and has six wire connections, two thermal switches and the element itself. Take a picture before unhooking the wires. (The big picture is it's wired so if any component fails then no power can flow through either switch or the heating element. ) Recommend taking the heater assembly to a work bench and replacing the element and or switches there where it is comfortable to work on. Getting everything to line up isn't hard but takes a few tries (you certainly don't want to be sitting in a weird position to do it) I can't speak to longevity, but my dryer is ten years old and I'm still using it because of 23.99 in parts and maybe 2 hours of my time. Certainly beats buying a new 5-6 hundred dollar unit. Definitely recommend giving it a shot, and if you don't want to pull the trigger on parts until you know for sure, taking it apart and check for continuity first if either switch or the element has infinite resistance order the parts, if everything has continuity you probably have a different problem. If your dryer is getting hot but not drying clothes it could be the exhaust pipe is full of lint, I've had that issue in a different house on a different unit. This fixed the no-heat condition. I just installed this kit into my dryer and the whole process took around three hours to complete. Much of this was taking extra time to clean the excess lint from unit during reassembly. I recommend using all of the parts in this kit as they’re designed to work together. When I disassembled my dryer, it was clear that the existing element was the problem since there was a crack in it. The four other parts included are easy to get to once you’re at the element housing. I’d buy this again and recommend it to someone that is a little handy. Everything can be done with simple hand tools and a vacuum cleaner. Take pictures along the way and remember to reconnect everything. Save yourself some money and repair before replacing. I'm currently using this product on my dryer for years I can tell you that it last longer that the factory one. I bought and extra for backup. I replaced every 2 or 3 years usually. And is the same problem the spring broke. Read more
