This is one of those small upgrades that makes a desk setup easier to live with. My old doesn't have many snug ports anymore, so I use it to connect assorted peripherals without constantly swapping cables, and it handles that without any fuss. The compact size is a plus. It fits easily in a laptop bag, and the aluminum body feels a bit more solid than plastic hubs I have tried. It works as well as my previous USB hub and has the added bonus of a charging-only (no data) port on the end. The charging only port is actually rather handy for charging a phone from a public USB port, for instance in a coffee shop or airport, since it prevents any data from being transferred. The only downside to using it in that manner is that it is a somewhat slow charger. The male USB-C input easily fits in every female USB-C output port I tried and seems universally compatible, although you'd need an USB-C/USB-A adapter to use it with an older USB-A charger or computer. It works fine with my laptop and with the chargers (some public) that I've tried it with. The aluminum shell has a durable feel to it and the nice finish gives the visual impression of quality. The short (<1ft) cord on the one I got is convenient for laptop use and for being compact and easy to pack and transport, although some people might have a setup where a longer cord would be more convenient. So far, so good. The USB3 speeds are true to claim an the aluminum body gives this a sturdy rugged feel. A flimsy plastic case may work for something hanging off the back of a desktop PC where you plug things in and then forget about them but you really want something like this if it's going in a laptop bag or used regularly for plugging and unplugging things. It has a charge-only port on the end which is nice but it's important to note that this gets all its power from the USB port it's plugged into so if you're using this for data transfer on a computer rather than connected to a power strip, you'll be drawing from that port and limited to the maximum output it can handle which will put a strain on the computer power supply, especially on a laptop of that supply is the battery. Some strips like this will come with a USB-C port specifically meant for plugging into a power brick to supply extra power while using for data. This isn't one of those. That's not a fault of the device but just something to be aware of if you're thinking you're going to plug in a few portable hard drives that draw power along with charging your phone while attached to a laptop - that's not going to be practical. Otherwise, no complaints at all. Been using it for a few weeks now with zero problems. Speeds have been good and for what it is, I think the price is pretty good, too. Read more
