Because of that long experience, I can confirm that they are effective. I have not experienced any unwanted side-effects. They're as easy to swallow as any of my daily supplements, and I don't see any challenges to using them. My first impression of these D3 Vitamins from Xtravit was that the vitamin tablets have been placed in a hilariously large container. Since humidity control is absolutely vital for D vitamins, the greater volume of the bottle means a larger desiccant is needed to maintain effectiveness. The manufacturer needs to be thinking about that when choosing how to go about shipping and in particular for shelf-stability.
