Wow! This is a super quiet and highly effective portable unit. After two short lived "baseboard" style units, we chose to go with the Vornado after reading a number of independant reviews. Fearful of fan noise we hesitated, but I'm very glad we chose this unit. When we first turned it on both my spouse and I wondered if it was working properly. It was. Even at low power it was able to rapidly bring the 16x20 ft room up about 12 degrees to a comfortable temperature. The room was an addition and has only a single small heating and AC air outlet at the end of a long ductwork run from the furnace. In cold weather it's often 10 to 15 degrees (F) colder than the rest of the house. After a week of cold weather this fall, the Vornado has already proven it's value. Being an audio buff, I have a db meter, and measured the fan at both high and low setting at 38 db at 1 meter (roughly a yard). That means even sitting next to it, it's quieter than the average desktop computer (40 db). At a more typical distance of 10 to 12 feet in our room, it barely registered against normal suburban household noise. For us, the next important feature was an ability to turn the heating unit down from the typical 1500 watts to 750. Even having upgraded the electrical service to this family room a few years ago, with a small kitchenette that includes a toaster oven and microwave, I worried about overloading the wiring. Most units with thermostats either just turn down their fans or totally turn off their heat- when on, they always use their rated 1500 watt heating elements. On the Vornado the fan runs at a very quiet constant speed whenever the unit is turned on and the heating element comes on as needed at an easily selectable 750 or 1500 watts. We can leave it on with the thermostat set and switched to the lower power rating with no telltale signs of distress - no warmth from the unit's cord, or the socket into which it's plugged and no tripped circuit breakers. That, plus the units internal anti-tip and overheat sensors ie me a much better feeling of safety using it for supplemental heat. The anti-tip sensor is very sensitive - even an uneven floor might be enough (as we found) to turn the unit off. Read more

Starts heating in seconds, good instructions and easy to use dials. I have two rooms that the central heating doesn't warm up very well (a lot of windows and a tile floor). This space heater quickly makes those rooms comfortable. Set the temperature (a range from low to high), then turn it on; it's that easy. Read more

YMMV, but the Vornado VH10 has been a huge disappointment for me. Based on reviews, I had high expectations. I liked the design and appreciated all the safety features, the easy portability (light weight, integrated carry handle) and the simple, pleasant controls. Unfortunately, when I first turned on the unit (on low heat) I noticed a very unpleasant smell. I was concerned the plastic components might be releasing unhealthy Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). I ran the heater on high in an attempt to accelerate this off-gassing while simultaneously opening a window (despite the fact it was only 17 degrees outside) to get some fresh air into the room and allow the VOCs to escape. After a while (~1 hour?) the smell diminished and so I closed the window and kept the heater on high in attempt to warm up the room. Unfortunately, after continuing to run for about an hour, the heater showed literally zero ability to warm the room. In fact, although the heater was running on high and positioned only about 2-3 feet from my legs, I could barely feel it emitting any warmth. Unable to believe that the heater was so ineffective, I went and got a thermometer from another room. With the thermostat in the house set to 65 degrees and the heater running full blast, the thermometer indicated that the room temperature was only 64 degrees!! Eventually, I decided to double-check the thermometer by turning off the heater and moving the thermometer to another (admittedly slightly sunnier room), at which point the thermometer showed a temperature of 66 degrees. In other words, it was warmer in the OTHER room than in the room in which I'd be running the Vornado heater!! Talk about frustrating. Needless to say I'm starting the return process immediately. PS - I had much better luck with another recent Amazon purchase - the Energyflux Enduro (http://www.amazon.com/EnergyFlux-Enduro-7800mAh-Rechargeable-double-sided/dp/B00NIMVV50/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top?ie=UTF8). From what I've read, it's much more efficient to warm your body than to try to warm a whole room (or house). I'm going to keep looking into other body-warming solutions, such as heating pads or heated carpets... Read more

I could tell by the way this product was packaged that I was going to like it. It was clear the manufacturer cared about how their product would arrive to the customer. And I was not disappointed when I plugged the heater in, and got very quiet, instant heat. In my mind, the simpler the better and this heater is better, no remote, no led display, just basic safety features, hi/ lo setting, on/ off, and temp range. Love it. However, while it worked well last winter, turned it on this month, and it died. I will send it to the manufacture under their 5 year warranty. Had an amazing response with the customer support people at Vornado! I told them about the heater that died, and wow, within a week, they replaced it no charge. Read more
