Works great with my Annke DVR. Read more
WD Purple "Old School" HDD are a solid purchase for DVR and NVR applications. The Exact same "newer style" ones, are just like everything else. Cheaply built. Lowest bidder always comes first. Shame. This HDD tackles 16 camera's inputs 24/7 and hasn't failed yet. Highly recommend, over the "New Style". Read more
Bought this for a security camera system. Was probably way more storage space than I really needed for my 4 camera system, but for the $ it allows me a ton of storage space. I use the motion record setting, but I'm guessing if I recorded 24/7 it would probably save about a months worth before it started to record over itself again. Drive came packaged nicely and was what you would expect. I'm not a computer guy, but after researching what I needed to my camera system, this was affordable and plugged right in. Camera system formatted it in minutes, and it's been working flawlessly since day 1. Amazon generally has this as a suggestion when you search for home security systems, and that's right where it belongs. If you need a HD for your system, I would definitely recommend giving this one a try. Read more
Happy with product, used in surveillance computer, easy install. Read more
I have two of these 1Tb Purple drives in service in LINUX-based 16-channel surveillance camera DVR's, running exclusively in motion-triggered mode, with daily play-back... for less than two months so far. The drives connected and installed with no problem (except that I had to provide the mounting screws), and they formatted automatically - "Plug and Play". I have not noticed any physical (noise, heat, etc.) nor operational issues so far - although the full capacity of the drives hasn't been "consumed" yet, so it's yet to be seen how they may behave when "over-writing" starts (which Is where I've seen occasional problems show up with other DVR drives in the past). So far, so good! Read more
Worked perfectly, mounted & formatted fine in a NVR. Then after 6 months it died. First I thought it was the NVR but when I put in a different hard drive the NVR worked fine. I then took the WD hard drive and put it inside a USB SATA enclosure and then inside a computer. Both times the drive wouldn’t even power where other drives would just fine. I attempted to submit an advanced RMA via WD RMA website and I couldn’t get past the address and credit card page. First, it wouldn’t let me ship to a different address than what my credit card was registered to. I gave in and just set the credit card and shipping address as the same. Every time I tried to submit it would auto erase the US state I was shipping to and the submit button would stay grayed out. I guess Western Digital doesn’t recognize the state of California. I figured maybe it was my web browser I was using but after multiple attempts thru different web browsers I decide to just call them instead. Western Digital’s phone support was a much better experience than their website. The rep was helpful and easy to talk to. They told me in 3 to 5 business days I will get a replacement. A REFURBISHED replacement. Thanks Western Digital. Thanks for agreeing to send me a USED, previously DEFECTIVE hard drive to replace the one I purchased NEW at full price 6 months ago. Maybe after the logo on your hard drive where it says “24 X 7 Reliability” you should add “…. For 6 months” Read more
It's a Western Digital, of course it's a good hard drive. I've found these to be much more reliable than the Seagate brand. Absolutely nothing to complain about. Read more
So far so good. I made an uninformed initial purchase of a WD Blue Hard Drive for my surveillance DVR, it would intermittently work, maybe 10% of the time. So far this WD Purple HD has stayed connected to the DVR, so I am happy about that. If it chooses to disconnect down the road, I will update my post. UPDATE: Well its been over 2 months and still going strong. I would highly recommend this HD to anyone looking to use it in a DVR, works flawlessly unlike a traditional hard drive. Read more
