Background: I am a hobbyist, not a professional, but I've done my fair share of soldering. I bought this product because I have a motorcycle that I bought 2nd hand and the previous owner did not, in my opinion, wire correctly. He put led lights (front and back) in without adding any kind of resistors and, predictably, this results in hyper flash. Also, he put a fender eliminator kit on the rear, which left me no place to put my license plate (he cut that part off). Long story short: I felt that this whole situation needed to be redone. So I did. I have a soldering iron I bought years ago, the pen/screwdriver looking thing, that I never thought really worked that great. Since I had gotten set on rewiring the whole rear end of the motorcycle, I decided I needed a new soldering iron that would make the job a little easier. I went to Youtube looking for ways to make my wiring stronger and weatherproof, as some of these connections were going to be under my rear fender. I found a video by the user Wranglerstar and he recommended this product. I had seen his videos before, so I took a chance and ordered this product. I have to say, I'm really impressed! This is a great product and mine does in fact heat up in 6 seconds. I wired up all the connections using flux, solder, silicone auto paste and shrinkwrap tubing. Everything works, looks and performs great and I have had no issues what-so-ever with this product. I only give it four stars because I feel there is always room for improvement. In this case, there is no stand integrated into the gun to make it stand up while it is heating/cooling. Minor, to be sure, but noticeable while I was using it. Read more

I'm updating my review of this item. I read other reviews that said this product quit working after a few uses. I also thought my Weller 9400PKS had stopped working as good as it had when I first used it. All I can say is READ THE MANUAL from cover to cover and you will find that you are missing the most important part in the care and uses of the Weller soldering iron gun. And that is the cleaning of the tips. You should buy a small stainless steel or bronze style toothbrush this keeps the crud from building up on the tip. I use my Weller for cutting nylon webbing, paracord and ropes. The residue from burning the materials did not appear to be that much of a build-up but it made a tremendous difference in how fast and how well it cut through. I'm pretty sure the same problem is encountered with solder build-up. I hope this helps users at least try this before thinking their solder gun has broken/failed. Read more

I have used one of these solder guns for almost 8 years before finally having to replace it. During that time I have dropped it many times, it's been beat up and used out in the rain, under homes, in attics and inside vehicles. It has been one of the most reliable tools I have as an electrician. The solder tips are expensive and do not last very long however similar solder guns do not perform like this one, this tool will solder outside in the wind, that's remarkable. Read more
