I have enjoyed cooking and knives for most of my adult life (just turned 62). I have cooking knives made by most of the higher quality manufacturers, including a set of Zwilling Cramer knives. The knife under review is a nominal 23 inch “tuna” knife. The knife is very well made and sharp out of the box (unlike some of the newer Wusthof knives). The knife comes with a leather storage case and utility cloth. Since this knife is made for slicing, the tip is not sharpened as there is no need to do so. Again, this is a knife made for slicing large fish and not a ninja sword. The price of just over $300.00 with tax is a bargain. I have been in the market for a tuna knife for quite some time, and they are expensive. The top Japanese knives can exceed five digits, and used ones in good condition run about $2000.00 to $3000.00. One can find several older resharpened models for within the $300.00 to $400.00 range. I thought I would give this knife a try for the price, and for my needs, I am not disappointed. I will not be using this knife professionally, but for the few times a year I may use it, it is more than sufficient. Perhaps one day I will get one of the older refurbished Japanese knives so that I can say I have one; but for now, I am well pleased with this purchase. Read more
It's big As it's supposed to be only gripes is the slight angle at the handle/blade (each is straight, but not with each other) and the handle could be finished more, nothing a few coats of Boiled Linseed Oil won't cure. Read more
Wow sums it up sorry, no useful tips here.... Read more
First from tip to bottom of sharpened blade is 22 and a half inches, tip to the bottom of the bolster is 23 inches. Second is the handle should be longer for this type of knife. Third is the tip isn't sharpened. Fourth the leather sheath looks like fake cardboard leather. It's sharp and the pattern is pretty, but for how expensive this knife is it should be perfect.
