It works. I took a while for me to learn to draw the blade smoothly. My less than smooth attempts didn’t do any damage. I’m getting better with practice and the results are good. Read more

Disagree with people who complain about this unit sliding around. Keep it clean, moe! And keep a hand on it! Also, while the motor DOES bog a bit, it won't choke unless you jam the knife into the slot. Let the speed do the work, not the pressure. Keep the blade moving. This made a veteran Cutco chef's knife razor sharp as well as a more recent Farberware very-sharp knife even sharper. Haven't tried it on scissors, serrateds, ceramics nor on esoteric stuff like hedge clippers and my hatchet. For now, it passes just fine. Read more
As someone who loves to cook but absolutely *hates* dull knives, I was really excited to get my hands on this 5-in-1 Electric Knife Sharpener. My old manual sharpener just wasn't cutting it... Out of the box, this sharpener feels pretty solid. It's got a good weight to it, so it feels level on the counter, which is a big plus when you're dealing with sharp objects. The design looks sleek too, which is a nice bonus for a kitchen gadget. The LCD screen is really handy. It clearly shows your selected speed (there are 3 rotational speeds, which is great for different levels of dullness or blade types). Adjusting the speed is super easy with the push of a button. I started with a lower speed for some slightly duller knives and then bumped it up for a really neglected one. The 3-stage sharpening process (coarse, medium, fine) really works wonders. My dullest chef's knife went from struggling to cut a tomato to gliding through it effortlessly after just a few passes in each stage. The 100% diamond abrasives definitely seem to do their job – the edges felt incredibly smooth and sharp. I even took it to a pair of kitchen scissors that had seen better days, and they're now snipping away like new. I mostly focused on my straight-edge kitchen knives and some scissors, and it performed brilliantly for those. It's awesome knowing I have the option for serrated knives and even a meat cleaver, though I haven't had a chance to try those out yet. The guides keep the angle consistent, which is crucial for getting a good edge. It's surprisingly easy to use, even for someone who's a bit intimidated by electric sharpeners. Just make sure you read the instructions for the best technique. The base is supposed to be non-slip however I had to place a small rubber mat under it to keep it from moving as the sliding around can be a safety issue. The other thing I'd note is that it's a bit noisy, as most electric sharpeners are, but it's a small price to pay for razor-sharp blades. All in all, this electric knife sharpener has quickly become one of my favorite kitchen gadgets. My knives are now incredibly sharp, making cooking much more enjoyable. If you're tired of dull blades and want a versatile, effective sharpener, this is definitely one to consider. My hands thank me every time I use my newly sharpened knives! Read more

This three stage electric knife sharpener has pretty much the typical layout - station one for coarse sharpening, station two for finer sharpening, and station three for final polishing. The differences are that you have selectable “speeds” for different types of knives (e.g., ceramic vs carbon steel, etc.), and you can also sharpen serrated knives as well as scissors. The polishing rod used in stage 3 can also be removed and used as a deburrer and sharpener on larger knives or cutting instruments that wouldn’t fit the regular sharpening slots. I had no real difficulty in sharpening various sized knives - 3 chef’s knives, several utility knives, a santoku, several paring knives, and a pair of kitchen shears. The only issue was that some of the knives would catch in station one, especially on the left side, it was almost as if the fitting was a bit out of alignment. I re-tried with those same knives and also tried to ensure that I wasn’t angling the knives too much, but they still would catch and not draw smoothly. The knives did come out sharpened, but it took multiple efforts given that issue with stage one. The sharpener is competitively priced, especially given the features, but the apparent problem with the first station gives me some concern that this sharpener may have some quality issues so I’m hesitant to outright recommend this device.
