Worth it! You just need to spend the time dialing things in.

Jonathan Segallβ€”September 8, 2025βœ“ Verified purchase

I felt compelled to write a review based off the number of people who have commented that this bottomless portafilter resulted in messy extraction that caused espresso to squirt out. This was my experience too and it is entirely user error. In fact, it took me 17 different attempts before I found the right settings. Once I did, voila! Beatiful espresso pouring down just as you'd expect. There are a number of factors that can cause the espresso to shoot out like that, but it all relates to channeling. You need to take the time to problem solve where it's coming from. In my instance, the grind setting on my Breville Barista Touch was too course for this particular portafilter. In fact, I went from a 14 grind setting down to 7 before I found the right fineness (in Breville machines the lower the number, the finer the grind). Along the way, I needed to increase the grind dosage since finer grinding results in less grounds. Other users have commented that the included basket is the issue and had their problems solved by using the Breville basket. I experienced the messy extraction with both baskets until my settings and puck preparation were dialed in. Related to this, please note that the Breville basket is slightly smaller than your typical 54MM, so if you purchased the Knodos puck screen, it will not properly sit in the Breville basket. You need to use the basket that came with the Knodos bottomless portafilter. So after all this, did my coffee taste better? Definitively yes, but keep in mind this is not due to the bottomless portafilter but rather the steps and process leading up to using it. The bottomless portafilter simply shows you the quality of the shot coming down, it does not produce a "better" shot than a dual spout portafilter. What I found really interesting in this entire process is that Breville's stock components, when used with the same Vita beans, all produced a pretty good, consistent shot even though my puck preparation wasn't great. Kudos to Breville for engineering something that can produce adequate results for the average user. Switching to the bottomless portafilter forced me to dial everything in and that process has resulted in a very noticeable 20% improvement in taste. The process involved finding the right grind setting and dose and adding a disrtributor and spring-loaded tamper into my puck preparation. Previously, I was just using the included Breville tamper and skipping certain steps was definitely resulting in uneven tamps. In all of this, the one thing I am most baffled by is the dramatic change in grind settings this required. Brevilles come pre-set at a grind setting of 15. I had previously used 14 for my espresso making and, as noted, was getting decent results with all the stock components. I am now using a 7 grind level with the bottomless portafilter and the results are great! Read more

Solid Bottomless Portafilter with Good Fit and Finish

Anisiaβ€”December 21, 2025βœ“ Verified purchase

I’ve been using this KNODOS 54mm bottomless portafilter with my Breville machine, and the fit was accurate right out of the box. It locked into place smoothly without forcing or wobbling, which was one of the first things I checked. The weight feels solid and balanced in hand, not too heavy but sturdy enough to feel durable. The rosewood handle has a comfortable grip and a natural finish that feels smooth without being slippery. It stays comfortable to hold during extraction and cleanup. The bottomless design makes it easy to see the espresso flow, which helps when dialing in grind size and tamping technique. I noticed it made it easier to spot channeling compared to a standard spouted portafilter. It works well with 18–21 gram filter baskets, and the extraction felt consistent across multiple uses. Cleanup is straightforward since there are no spouts, and rinsing after use takes very little time. Overall, it functions as expected for a bottomless portafilter and pairs well with compatible Breville machines. Read more

Great portafilter

Joeβ€”January 6, 2026βœ“ Verified purchase

It’s a great portafilter, does exactly what it needs to do. Bottomless portafilters are beneficial because it lets you see if you are preparing your espresso properly. Most of the issues people experience are not the product’s fault. If your espresso is spraying, you need to grind finer. It fits in my Breville Bambino Plus well, I definitely recommend running a single shot without the portafilter in just to preheat the gasket, it slides in easier. Or, your gasket might just be dirty. A good rule of thumb is to aim for your espresso extraction to be about 30 seconds long. Lance Hedrick is a great coffee expert online, he recommends 18 grams of beans, and your espresso output to be 1:2 for dark roast, 1:2.5 for medium roast, and 1:3 for light roast. You can get a good kitchen scale with a timer for $10 - $15. Breville machines also have ways to run the machine completely manual, so it stops extracting only when you press the button again. Getting good espresso extraction is not always an easy process, but the difficulty is not to be blamed on this product. Read more

Bottomless Portafilter

Thomasβ€”December 1, 2025βœ“ Verified purchase

The portafilter works pretty well overall, and the rosewood handle looks great. It’s definitely a tight fit on my Bambino Plus, though, and I get a little bit of spraying during shots. Still, it does the job and pulls nice extractions once everything is dialed in. Read more

Good Portafilter Upgrade

Luke Powersβ€”January 15, 2026βœ“ Verified purchase

Fits perfect in my Breville Bambino Plus, as advertised. It looks very nice, love the wooden handle. I will say, however, it's a little deeper than the stock Breville portafilter. This means I needed to adjust the amount of grounds I put in there. Not a negative thing, just be wary of that. Read more

I just received this portafilter today and like any bean head I washed it and immediately put it to work. The build and fit are perfect for my breville infuser. Its nice when you can pull a 20g shot flawlessly on the first try. Im very happy with my upgrade. Knodos is an amazing brand, I highly recommend them. Read more

Bottomless design makes espresso pour messy.

Bic Bonesβ€”January 15, 2026βœ“ Verified purchase

Very nice quality and works as it should. However, I am a little put off by the bottomless design as it will spit and spray espresso, dirtying the machine. Most coffee ends up in the cup below but it is still messy. Read more
