I have used these strips for a few days so it is still early to see any results but I did not experience any advers reactions from using these strips l. **3.5 ** stars -- Deductions for messiness, fit, and inability not to swallow the gel I have always taken very good care of my teeth and never use at-home whiteners or teeth strips. Frankly, I've never trusted their safety. You only get one set of teeth, you know. However, this brand apparently has a good reputation with consumers and the formula is peroxide-free for sensitive teeth, so I figured I couldn't go wrong with at least testing out the strips' effectiveness. 42 upper and lower strips come in individually sealed packets for a total of 21 full set treatments. The strips are pretty large, probably sized to fit even the largest teeth. They were, in fact, too large for me. I wasn't sure what to do with the excess, since it was emphasized not to swallow any of the gel on the back of the strips. For me, that was pretty hard to avoid. Without being able to swallow, the amount of saliva really built up in my mouth. I couldn't get my teeth dry enough to really stick the strips, and if I folded the excess length underneath the edge of my teeth to the back sides of the teeth there was 100% chance of swallowing the gel. Maybe I'm just not handy enough at placement of the strips, but I didn't it all that easy and the strips didn't stick well to my teeth without slipping. Perhaps practice makes perfect. BUT ... the strips were just too messy for me and I couldn't figure out a way not to swallow the gel. The upside is that the strips are truly sensitive-free. No issues there, at least. A "small" card containing a color chart of teeth is included to compare the color of your own teeth to your progress during the 21 day whitening process. The photos are small and not that easy to compare close up to teeth. The instructions don't say how often to whiten, and I also didn't like the saliva buildup and risk of swallowing gel. It's hard not to swallow the gel over the 30 minute process time. I noticed a slight difference in color shade with one treatment, but the process was messy for me and not reliable enough to justify the time, risk, and expense. I feel more confident leaving procedures like this to a dentist, but that's just me. Obviously, many consumers have great success with such strips and based on this brand's reputation and commitment to a safe formula, I would recommend the strips in general. They just aren't for me. I'll stick the tease of some really good whitening toothpastes and leave any serious whitening to the professionals. FYI: If you have teeth yellowing from loss of enamel and not just discoloration from foods, etc., then the teeth cannot be whitened again by any process and strips can actually discolor teeth. I always like to err on the side of caution. It's best to check with your dentist first about compatibility with your own teeth and likelihood of satisfying results, before using at-home products. I have tried several whitening regimines in the past, and all led to sensitive teeth and pain. So far, after mutilple treatments of Active Wow Teeth Whitening Strips, the experience is markedly different. No pain at all. The size of the strips are big enough for my larger teeth sizes. I like that it has a thick gel you can push into the corners of the teeth and along the gum line. The flavor is subtle and won't cause any gags. Once you remove the strips, the gel remains. Some may find this a little off-putting, but I feel like I get a little extra cleaning while I sleep. It will wash away with water, or you can do a quick brush after use to remove all the gel. All in all, rating as 4 stars since my teeth are not hurting and it seems to be working. I have used many whitening strips before and found that most hurt my teeth after a few uses. These are good so far and do not bother my sensitive teeth. The instructions are somewhat confusing because they say to brush your teeth, then apply. The instructions on the back say to not apply until after an hour after brushing your teeth. The strips tend to leave the same amount of gummy gel on the teeth after 30 minutes as most other brands and you can brush or just rinse it off with no problem. First of all the instructions...brush first, don't brush first...who knows?? I've done both. I've used them for a solid week and there is no change in the color of my teeth at all. There are 21 strips but I don't think I can go that long. The gel on the strips is like super glue. You can't just "rinse" your mouth after using them. You have to brush the stuff off. I've tried many brands of white strips, but I've never used one that left as much goopy slimy snot-like gel on my teeth as these did. For those with texture issues like me, it's pretty gag-worthy. They fit well and stayed put for the 30 minutes, but not sure about the long-term whitening ability of them because I can't bear the thought of having my teeth feel like they are covered in ectoplasm again. As a registered dental hygienist, I'm always excited to try new whitening products to recommend to my patients. This is my first time using a whitening product with Phthalimidoperoxycaproic acid as the active ingredient as all my other products have used hydrogen peroxide. The strips are easy to apply and stick well for the duration of the 30 minutes. As others have stated, the instructions contradict themselves as to when you should brush your teeth -- one part says at least one hour before and multiple areas say immediately before applying strips. I waited one hour bc that is my experience with other whitening products. The taste is pleasant and mild. I haven't experienced any sensitivity. I will update this post with results (although I started at about a 2/3 on their whitening scale so there's not much room for improvement). But I am happy with the product thus far! Read more
