This mount is sturdy and well-designed. It is well-protected against weather, which would certainly be important for a weather-sensor product. I am using it as a roof mount for my Ambient Weather WS-1200-IP Observer Solar Powered Wireless Internet Remote Monitoring Weather Station with Solar Radiation and UV sensor unit. The legs, when extended to their full radius, are spaced to land atop standard roof rafters. To make this work, you must locate your station so that it straddles the roof ridge. You'll want to do this anyway, as this will be the high point for many installations. For roof mounting on a standard shingled roof, this kit— Ambient Weather EZ-46-3 Tar Pad Kit for Roof Tripod Installation — is required. Note that it includes the six lag bolts you will need to secure the legs to the roof. Since Ambient Weather will not tell you how to install this tripod on your roof (not blaming them; I'm sure this is for product liability reasons), a simple and clear explanation is at the Denny's Antenna Service web site. Search "how to install a TV antenna tripod mount" and pick the Denny's article. Follow the instructions, and make sure you are anchored in your joists. Otherwise your tripod mount and the instrumentation mounted on it will end up doing a Dorothy-and-Toto in the first strong wind. This is one of Ambient's great products, and I recommend it highly. It was not inexpensive, but it is heavy, sturdy and stable for my husband’s weather station. And it enables him to move it throughout the yard or the property so that he can catch the wind as we are in a very heavily wooded area. In the long run, it was worth it. Read more

Bought this because my current setup was too close to the house to get good readings. Shown with the extra extension. Only complaint I have is in the description on Amazon says doesn't work with Acurite. It fits perfectly on the Acurite Atlus model as they changed the connector to 1 1/4. Might want to update those notes! Read more

Build quality is great. It's made of galvanized 18-gauge steel. I compared it to the Davis tripod and it seems of comparable quality and is much less expensive. Read more

Great tripod - using 1 mast extension + 24 inch stakes. Setup was easy - amazingly I didn't run into roots and rocks when I drove the stakes into the ground. Installed on relatively flat ground so leveling and plumbing was pretty easy. Now the downside, which is why I'm only giving it 4 stars at this time. The Acurite 5 In 1 weather station does not fit. I was a little aggravated at this, only because of the minor inconvenience of having to fix it. Don't send the product back if you have the basic tools and skills to implement the fix. I'm quite happy with the sturdy and solid mount. Here's what I did: 1. Went to Home Depot and purchased a 3/4" x 18" galvanized pipe. 3/4" is the exact size (OD) that will fit into my Acurite 5 In 1 Sensor. That pipe will fit inside the Ambient fitting ( I have the tripod with a single extension ), but needs to be secured. 2. Inserted 6" of the new pipe inside the Ambient fixture. Drilled 2 holes ( 5 / 32" ) through both pipes. Used 1" self tapping screws to secure the pipes together. There will be a little play, so it is important that you make sure the galvanized pipe is plumb before you drill the 2nd hole and drive the screw. Used vise-grips to hold the pipes in place, so the Ambient fitting was squeezed in a little - this is good. Drilled 1/8 pilot holes and then went up to 5/32. 3. Added some weather proof / silicon seal to close the gap between the pipes. Keeps water out and adds cosmetics if you're close enough to look at the joint. 4. Mounted the sensor onto the galvanized pipe with 2 more self-tapping screws. (Skip those screws that came with the Acurite mounting hardware). Very secure mounting! Gained an extra foot with the pipe - weather station is 8' above ground and very stable. Hope this helps! Read more

This Tripod is great to have because we did not want to install a pole or put this unit up on the roof of the house. The only thing that we had to do was go to Lowe's and get a new pipe to fit our weather station. You will need a 3/4 inch pipe instead of the one that came with the tripod. that was the only issue that we had. The 3/4 inch pipe fit perfectly , so far really great. We can move this tripod around in different locations if necessary. Nice heavy duty tripod. Read more
