I just received the laptop stand, and rushed online to provide this review, because I'm THAT impressed! This is a well designed product, manufactured with thick, 2.5 mm solid aluminum. While that may sound thin, this product is STRONG - the metal is inflexible and sturdy. All of the edges are polished smooth and the entire surface has a subtle texture to it that makes it resistant to scratches. The joints are exceptionally tight to hold even the heaviest laptop without shifting under the weight. They also move smoothly when positioning the stand into different angles - which requires a bit of strength (as would be expected for this type of item). When opened up, the wide base provides excellent stability while providing a nice platform for writing, a mouse, or under an auxiliary keyboard. As a finishing touch, the maker has included four non-slip silicone disks under the base, four smaller ones on the actual support (presumably for iPads), and two silicone strips atop the 1.5 cm L brackets (in addition to the two large vertical strips on either side of the support) to prevent slippage. This is excellent and doing the job for me quite nicely, helping me achieve better posture when looking at my iPad while eating breakfast. TMI? But it is stable, and I'm pretty sure I'll be able to use it with my MacBook, but I'll need to get a bluetooth keyboard. Sturdy Stand with Some Tradeoffs I’ve been using the BESIGN LS10 Aluminum Laptop Stand, and it does a solid job at what it’s meant to do. The aluminum build is sturdy and stable—I don’t feel like my laptop is going to wobble or slide off, which is a big plus. It also folds flat, which makes it easier to tuck away when not in use. On the ergonomic side, the adjustability is a nice touch. Raising the screen does take some pressure off my neck, especially during long sessions. However, the adjustment mechanism feels a little stiff, which makes changing the angle less smooth than I’d like. The footprint is compact and works well for 10–14 inch laptops, but it’s worth noting that if you use something on the larger side, or if you type heavily while the laptop is on the stand, there can be a slight bounce. I mostly use an external keyboard and mouse, so it hasn’t been an issue for me. One small thing to keep in mind: the aluminum edges are fairly sharp. Not dangerously so, but if you’re moving it around often, you’ll notice it. Bottom line: A sturdy, portable stand that does its job well for smaller laptops and external keyboard setups. 1. It is NOT solid aluminum. The plates are made from the high quality lightweight aluminum composite panel material with polymer core (middle layer) and very thin aluminum outside layers, painted in the color you pick. 2. The pivots are ADJUSTABLE, i.e., the torque (the EFFORT) needed to change the shape of the stand can be varied widely. There is a 4mm Allen-style wrench included. Use it to add tension, or to loosen the pivots — it is all up to you. 3. The beauty of the pivots is that they DO NOT COME LOOSE over time. This is important. 4. Detach the upper platen by removing the screws plus the plastic washers and turn the platen around in its own plane. Re-attach the washers and the screws, tighten them as before and ... you are now the owner of a tall handy BOOK STAND. For a cook book, if that is your thing, of sheet music. An awesome device. Other competing models most often lack adjustability of the pivots. This thing is worth its weight in gold. Read more
