So my mom had one of these and I loved borrowing hers I got one for myself. I have early onset MS so for me being able to use things that are not very heavy when I’m alone or having a bad day with my hands is a necessity. Hard when you are trying to make a protein smoothie that’s large, however I will just do 2 batches. Does great overall when using frozen fruits to actually blend them down. If you are wanting something that will be super easy to clean and doesn’t have so many attachments this is for you. I have an older big boss 'set'... we use it every weekend for 'ritas, smoothies, etc. The seal on the blade spindle is worn and it leaks a bit. Not much of a hassle, but enough of one. We purchased this 'newer' model, hoping to mix and match parts... NOPE. they are not a match. : ( Further, the new unit motor smokes and jams when munching light ice cubes. Really? Come ON, people! 3.26.14 UPDATE: Going from 3 to 2 stars. We are still trying to get some use out of the 'newer' unit once a week or twice a week... MONTHS after we got it... it STILL smells like smoke and chokes on basic ice cubes. The original unit was so much better. 5.15.14 UPDATE: Going from 2 stars to ONE STAR. If I was able to go to ZERO I would. Machine finally smoked and burnt out after one or two times per week use. I also caught on ice cubes. ARE YOU KIDDING ME???? Sent the burnt out carcass back to Emsoninc with a nice note. Got the old, leaky one out of the cupboard and started to use it again... may try to fi the leak around the worn blade shaft in some way. No good. This unit does not have a proper seal and the horsepower is lacking. Spend a couple more dollars and get this set: Big Boss Multi Blender 13 Pc. Set. The unit on the 13 piece set is much stronger and the seal is better. I just returned the 4-Piece set and got the 13 Piece one even though I don't need all the parts in that set. Read more

This is my second purchase of the same blender. I feel like I got my money's worth out of the first blender before the gasket went and leaked any beverage. I would estimate I've used this one 16 to 20 times and as you can see the brokenrubber gasket makes this completely unusable. My husband uses this almost every morning to make a smoothie. It lasted about two years before one of the pieces of the gear broke off. He uses solid frozen fruit. After the second piece of gear broke off he glued it back on and is still using it! with one piece of gear still broken off! I ordered a new one so that when it finally gives in, he isn't without his "Big Boss". Read more

I'm currently on a special diet that incorporates multiple shakes a day. Originally I used a full-sized blender and found myself quickly tiring of cleaning and preparing that machine for my daily shakes. Bought this to try and simplify the process a little. Great decision. It's powerful enough to pulverize ice into smoothie consistency and mix the dry powders and add-ins. It's really made things easier, especially since the lip attachment turns the blending cup into a handy drinking cup. Will buy again when this one wears out! Read more
