Just got my new Bissell 2998 yesterday and it’s already been used four times. It is light enough to lift from the box and assemble without instructions but I referred to them anyway. I like the way it all connects with a twist & lock or just a click without needing to refer to highly technical schematics. This is my third new vacuum in six years. Both prior vacuums, a Shark Liftaway and Bissell ClearView, still operate very well but my back and shoulders couldn’t take it any more. The ClearView is significantly more difficult for me to push, and the Shark is awkward. The new 2998 has fantastic suction and for some reason, I suspect it’s the closed HEPA filtration unit, it’s not pulling at my w-2-w carpet up the way the Shark did. Yet it’s powerfully extracting the finest dust particles! I’m just blown away by the power, quality, versatility, and most of all ease of cleaning. It came with an attachment for high dusting or hard to reach corners and the other for upholstery. I wish I had a before picture to share of my ottoman but I literally brought the original color back after two passes using the upholstery attachment. I also like that I can use the rollers or not and adjust for bare floors without having to bend or reach for the switch. The unit is more compact than most vacuums although it’s certainly weighty enough and it’s not made with cheap plastic. It’s actually a pretty appliance if you can believe it. I don’t know after so many months of searching, googling, using AI resources and finally the one embedded in the Amazon app - which I love! - I’m just so thrilled to finally have something to use that doesn’t make me feel my age. My back didn’t hurt once! I nearly selected a Eureka model for about $90 less, and for $200 more I could have the Shark Stratos that was in my cart for four days before finally finding this one. I made the right choice. Highly recommended! Read more

I don't have pets but I finally wanted a "real vacuum cleaner" and after about an hour of research I decided on this Bissell. There were a lot of reviews about the cable getting stuck underneath the vacuum and it seems to me they sort of fixed that: There are areas up top where you can clip the cable and have it be out of the way. The power cord seems fine to me but I live in a small apartment. I was curious though if I did want to get a power cord, and Rufus gave some good affordable power cords that people with a bigger home might want and then the problem of not the longest cord is solved. It was super easy to assemble and very intuitive to use. I have a mop and a stick vac and am clean, or so I had thought. I filled the dust container in a half hour, it really cleans deeply! Oh, and there were some comments about the bare floor vacuuming without the brush setting not vacuuming as well as the brush setting; I learned that I can use the vacuum with the carpet brush setting on my bare floors and bathroom and that worked well. Comments about dust flying if you do that is solved by cleaning your dust container if you have lots of dog hair or other things that could end up falling out somehow. Speaking of hair, my long hair is everywhere and I usually have to cut the hair out of any vacuum I use. I couldn't believe it, not one single hair was caught inside the brush after vacuuming my whole place! This Bissell is a keeper! Read more

After multiple attachment replacements on my Dyson Animal DC07, I decided to try another brand. I researched a lot of lift-off style models and chose the Bissell 2998. I have two short-hair cats that I didn’t think shed a tremendous amount (ha!), but they seem to fling litter everywhere they go. After six weeks with this thing, I’m still amazed at how full the tank is after each use. PROS: - It does a fantastic job cleaning carpets! It has amazing suction power. - I love the convenience and portability of the lift off tank. Good-bye to lugging around the whole unit. - The brush attachment is amazing for cleaning carpeted stairs. On its first use, it pulled a shocking amount of cat litter out of the steps. - The headlights are bright and well placed. They’re more effective than I expected. - The swivel style is very maneuverable and helps reach difficult places. CONS: - It’s almost worthless on bare floors when the brush is turned off. It hardly picks up anything at all. Most of my house is carpeted, so it’s not a huge deal breaker for me. - The cord is shorter than the Dyson, so I have to move the plug frequently when going from room to room. - And, since the cord is attached to the tank it comes out near the bottom of the unit when used in the upright position. In order to avoid running over it, I end up holding it in the hand that grips the handle which shortens the length even more. - I wish it had a release button a the top of the tank like the Dyson for a cleaner way to empty the debris.
