Before trying this I tried the ordinary replacement filters and the blue ones that last for about 6 months. I live in an area with good water quality, but the plumbing in my home is new and made the water taste weird. All of these filters worked well to improve the taste of my tap water, but I appreciate that these will result in less plastic waste. I wanted to like the blue filters, and honestly, they worked fine, but I do think the pitcher needs to be washed well with hot soapy water at least once a month because I have found pink slime mold growing in different filter pitchers multiple times over the years. It’s just the nature of plastic to harbor biofilms, and not changing the filter or washing the pitcher for six months is not sanitary. I have some misgivings about the nonwoven material that the replacement pouches are made of in terms of microplastic exposure, but I like that the carbon is from coconut husks, not animal-derived bone char. I am so happy to be able to get clean filtered water without filling the world with even more plastic! The cartridge refill process takes an extra minute or less once you have done it a few times. It will feel like the refill bag is too full to squish into the refillable plastic holder, but it isn't. Also, it does take a bit longer for the water to flow through this than the conventional filter. Read more
