I tried tasting the tap water, and it had a rusty and somewhat heavy flavor. I measured TDS on this pitcher when brand new and after a month. Both read 112. I also bought another Brita filter which was much larger. TDS on that read 200. Then I bought BWT pitcher and used their white/soft filtered water extra filter. It read TDS 110. I prefer small pitchers over big containers because pitchers are easier to clean and maintain. They are not heavy or bulky. Easier to carry to sink and wash without touching any other object. Problem with big water filter container is that the spigot sits at a height so you will always have water below that level until you turn the container upside down. If you really want clean water then you must fill up the pitcher - use the entire contents of pitcher and refill the pitcher only after that. Discard remaining water after 24 hours. In my case, the pitcher is small so I always get fresh, clean water without any wastage. The filters last 6 months, which is good and bad. I replace BWT filters every month. Taste of water is good. In my community, tap water is not tasty. For one or two people, this pitcher can keep clean, cold water available all the time. I have a water dispenser in my refrigerator door and find that this is a great complement to that resource. I keep my pitcher in the fridge and use it at my patio table to avoid trips to the kitchen. I also use it to quickly fill my dog’s and cat’s water bowls. Also, when power goes out and I can’t use the fridge’s built-in dispenser, this pitcher is always at the ready.
