This Kintif flat honing steel rod is diamond electroplated. It's listed as 600# grit. It re-sharpens or realigns those little dull spots on my kitchen knife edges. I slide the blade edge, down along the honing steel rod several times on one side. Then I do the same on the other side. It's easy to use. I try to do the same amount on both sides. Since it is 600# grit, it does not produce a finely polished edge as 1000# grit does. I'll have to look if they make one. The knife edge is definitely sharper! I've used it on several knives so far with good results. There is no sign of wear or use. It seems like it will hold up and last a while. The handle feels fine in the hand while sharpening. There is loop at the end of the handle which works great if you want to hang it on a hook. Approximate lengths: Total length - 15 inches. Honing Rod - 10 inches. Damond electroplating - 9.25 inches. Handle - 4.75 inches. Read more

This sharpening rod (“steel”) is very solid and massive. Really heavy in your hands, with a very thick ring at the base of the handle, to hang it around in the kitchen. It is different from the sharpening “steels” I have seen/used before: the section of the rod is not a circle: it is the sum of two relatively flat, let’s say, parabolas. This makes the job of sharpening easier, because you can have a better control on the sliding movement of the knife blade on the surface of the steel, on the two surfaces of the steel. A truly professional tool for the kitchen. Read more

The texture on the steel is more aggressive than other honing rods I have. A couple of swipes on both sides made my knife edges razor sharp. I use my other steel almost daily but I would be reluctant to use this one that often. I'll save it for when the blades need a bit extra work. It's difficult to tell from the photos but the steel is not round. It's like a flattened oval. It's very heavy duty and comes in a nice case. I recommend it as a sharpening tool. Read more

This knife sharpener is easy to use and works very well, just takes a little practice to hoild both the sharpener and the knife at the proper sharpening angle consistently. Start slow and you can gradually build speed as your muscle memory makes the motion feel more natural Read more
