I’ve tried a few other eco-friendly tableware utensils for my business events. It is very important to me when hosting an event where I produce “waste” to communicate to the public that I’m doing it in a sustainable way. Most products have been a disappointment, due to their poor quality where they break or just can’t pick up food. Wooden spoons leave that funny taste in your mouth (remember small ice cream paddles taste). I’ve now ordered and re-ordered from Ecovita and was compelled to write a positive review. Very sturdy quality, no smell and stamped right on every utensil is the word “100% Compostable”. I get my proper marketing message out, the forks pick up everything and knives cut a steak! I was impressed with this compostable cutlery set right out of the box. The knives, spoons, and forks are separated out into individual compartments, and the pieces themselves have a high-quality look to them. We used the forks and knives for Thanksgiving dinner and everyone commented on how nice they look -- the matte finish is definitely an upgrade from typical glossy looking plastic utensils. But the true test of these was seeing how durable the utensils were. They were surprisingly effective for cutting turkey and ham into bite-sized pieces for our little ones. AND the spoons did not wilt AT ALL in our soups! That's one thing I really appreciate compared to some of the wooden compostable spoons I've used in the past. Disposable cutlery is often flimsy - forks that break easily, spoons with edges that cut your lip, and worthless knives. I was very excited to discover this guilt-free cutlery set, but I was worried that "compostable" would also mean flimsy. Not only do these NOT disappoint, but it's the best disposable cutlery I remember using in a long time. The edges are smooth, the spoons are a nice width/depth, and the items are very sturdy. It really is hard to believe they're 100% biodegradable. Their only weakness seems to be some sensitivity to heat. If I dive into a very hot meal (like too hot to put in my mouth without blowing on it), the cutlery sometimes bends/melts/changes shape a bit, but still not disruptive enough to require a replacement imo. The utensils have a nice feel and are very sturdy. I was able to run them through the dishwasher and they came out as good as new. Despite the fact they are compostable, they are very durable. These utensils are similar to reusable containers. They do the job well but if you end up throwing them away, you don't mind because they weren't a huge investment. The fact that they are made of corn means they won't end up polluting the environment. Read more

I purchased these for a baby shower so I wanted elegant as well as tough enough to hold up like"stainless" flatware.
