Always nice to have a good sharpener around, and this one gets the job done. My knives were getting pretty dull and this brought them back to life. It's easy to use - just run the knife through the different stages and you're done. Doesn't take long and the results are noticeable right away. The guides help you keep the right angle, which is nice because I'm not a knife expert or anything. It takes the guesswork out of sharpening and makes it pretty foolproof. My knives are cutting smoothly again, which makes cooking so much easier. I didn't realize how dull they had gotten until I sharpened them and felt the difference. In terms of size, this sharpener is much larger and heavier, reflecting its superior quality. Using it is straightforward; you simply follow the provided guidelines to sharpen your knives from slot 1 to slot 3. If your knife isn't very dull, you can skip directly to slots 2 or 3, which adds helpful versatility. I tested it on one of my chopping knives, which I had previously sharpened with a budget electric sharpener and a whetstone. This sharpener worked much quicker and more effectively. This knife sharpener isn’t going to perform miracles and I don’t know that this will necessarily be of much help to serious chefs/people with expensive fancy, knives, but for my cheap knives that I use here and there to cut up an apple or whatever, this helps restore a smidge of their already mediocre sharpness. There are three settings (coarse, fine and polish) that truthfully didn’t really seem to do anything different or special. Each knife basically came out the same. I'm not very happy with this, for a few reasons. First of all, all of the shards of metal aren't sucked down into the bottom tray. It left quite a mess on the counter. Luckily, all it took was a wipe with a wet paper towel to clean them off. As a precaution, I also sprayed it with a little glass cleaner, just to make sure that they all came up. Secondly, and I don't know if it was just my knives, but it 'pulled' instead of glided, which made it a bit hard to use. It felt like my knives were being sucked into the machine as I was trying to glide them out. That left distinct marks on my knives, but at least the buffing section made them look smoother. And finally, although there are suction cups on the bottom, I have a flat countertop, and the sharpener still slid on my counters. Maybe if I wet them first, they'll stick better?? On the plus side, I was able to use them for both my knives and my scissors, which had become dull with age. So the functionality is great there. It did sharpen both of them, and now my scissors actually cut again. And it's small enough that I can keep it stored neatly on the counter. Personally, I think the price is a little high for this unit, considering all of the cons mentioned above. Read more
