We purchased this for the rooms on the 2nd floor. It was ordered and received within 10 days. I was concerned about whether or not it would actually cool off the room or rooms I needed it to being that it is the smaller of the units? My next concern was the remote and whether if I lost it would the unit still work? So I can say this cools of the 2 rooms on top floor very well. They are separated by a doorway with no door. I can also say that this unit works just fine without a remote so no concern there. This unit has been very easy to install. It comes with everything you need and you can move it easily through out the house. I do like the fan function as well, and yes it does make noise but I did not find it overwhelming or too loud. The remote does not come with batteries so make sure you have 2 aaa on hand. I did like the overall design of the unit and how you can move the direction of air. You can easily take the filter off and clean it. We didn't even need to tape anything to the windows it fit really nice. If you are looking at several different units and aren't sure on the one to buy, like I was. I would just say that this is a great unit. It really cools down the 2 rooms very well. I too was struggling to decide and I am very satisfied with my purchase, the cost was ok, and how it works is great. I do hope this helps. And good luck. Read more

I've had this unit for just over a month now. I've had to clean the air vent recently but thats to be expected with small dogs. It keeps my 12'x10' room cool. If your standing/sitting directly in front of it, I can even say its cold. My room has issues with everything: high humidity, drafts, molding, spiders, electrical issues, uneven flooring. With an eviction on your record you just gotta be thankful when someone let's you pay them, unfortunately. That said, the room doesn't get really cool unless its nighttime then it can quickly with the aid of this A/C unit get so cold that I switch it to fan mode. Can't turn it off though or it will quickly get warm again. So I know this thing is really trying to cool down my room. The house is just crappy. I really, really, like it more than the old window A/C unit I had. It looked so bad having to tape boxes to the window to keep enclosed. This comes with everything you need to install this to the window. I WILL SAY! The window slats don't necessarily work like they were supposed to. I think the cut was slightly off we had to add some stuffing to keep them from sliding around. We also had to tape every inch and crevice of the window because of the stupid drafts. A roll of duct tape and this unit go a long ways. You open my door to the main house and there is a DEFINITE change in temperature. All in all it works well. We own some property and are trying to move off grid and get out of the housing scheme and I bought this unit because it looks like it will run quite well off a solar powered unit when the time comes. 115volts and 800watts is manageable for sure. It works, but man is it loud. I got this because my upstairs bedroom gets quite hot despite my AC being on, not to mention it gets humid hot in my city. I cannot sleep in the heat. Also my room is pretty small, so as far as making it cold it works really well. If I put it in the hallway it does a decent job of cooling the upstairs area, but that's also with the help of fans. Setting up the window vent was easy but I did have to put cardboard in the space because my window wasn't big enough to use the window block (it's two pieces, and I'm just using one). The problem I have is that the unit is pretty loud, which defeats the purpose of helping me sleep. I could simply get used to the loud white noise but the issue is that the unit will shut off once it reaches the temp you set it to and then turns on once it gets hot. The unit turning on multiple times is the part that wakes me up. Earplugs help but not really. Also it collects a lot of water (thankfully there is a water tube), so you will need a bucket. The other thing is, I don't know how much energy consumption this is using. I'm worried about my energy bill. I may come back with edits once I have a better idea. I'm sure the noise issue is a common complaint with these AC units, which is why I'm still rating this at 4 stars. As far as this purchase, I probably should've just tried using multiple fans before buying this to see if that would be okay. Read more

Lots to say. First, this doesn’t cool the room any better than my 5,000btu did. Secondly, the wire to plug into the outlet, and the hose for the window are both wayyyyy too short. If you want to keep it in the corner, and cool just the corner…then it’ll work great. I literally couldn’t believe how short the wire was. Portable how? To move 2 inches? The hose is also way too short, and shorter than others I have had in the past. The window kit doesn’t fit correctly. Speaking of hose, the top part of mine came visibly cut; so either this was returned and the prior person cut it…or it’s how it was made. The end of the hose did not fit securely into the part that goes on the back of the ac. Everytime I try to move it, it pops out. The hose gets HOT…and I’m told from asking other users, it’s a common issue, and it’s bc of the material used for the hose. It is LOUD on the high level. It is loudish on the low level, but sounds like a standard window unit ac. The high level is LOUD thou. If you’re in front of it, it’s nice and cool. It hasn’t even been the hottest it’s going to be yet and this seems mediocre. It doesn’t seem worth the price. I had hoped an 8,000 btu portable unit would work better than a 5,000 btu window unit…but doesn’t seem to be the case. Disappointed. Will update if necessary. **UPDATE** I took a star off. After the hassle I went thru with it, I took it out of the window and put my 5 year old 5,000 btu back in…and it cooled the room better. I had the 8000btu portable ac, and TWO FANS…and the room was 82 degrees. I put the 5000 Btu window unit in and it dropped 2 degrees in an hour. Lowkey feel super annoyed like this is unacceptable.
