Perfect replacement battery for my APC UPS & Surge Protector MD# BE425M..

Robertβ€”December 19, 2025

I was looking for a replacement Battery for my APC UPS & Surge Protector MD# BE425M. This battery ExpertPower EXP1245, 12V, 4.5A was a perfect fit! If you read the user manual for the APC UPS 7 Surge Protector, it states that there are no user replaceable componets. Not true! I was able to secure this battery and replacement was fairly easy for me. I saved a lot of money over a complete replacemnt of my APC unit and spared the landfill too! Read more

Long Lasting

F4Flyerβ€”May 21, 2023

I purposely waited a year for this review since I had some doubt about how well these types of batteries would last under the circumstances, I use them. I connected these as a replacement to the original batteries on my garage door opener that failed after several years. It takes a fair amount of power to open a garage door when the power to the house fails, and that is why I got these replacements... to work in an emergency to open the door when the power goes off. They have been doing that job well as I test them about every 6 months. I see that they are advertised for security systems as well, however several other types of systems use these batteries other than security alarms and certain types of garage door openers. I expect they will continue to operate for the typical 4-5 years of life that I expect. So far so good. Read more

Replaces the "non-user replaceable" battery in APC BN450M UPS perfectly.

Joseph Doughertyβ€”September 11, 2025

If you own the small APC BN450M UPS (a popular home/small office UPS unit), you probably noted that the user guide explicitly states that the internal battery is not user-replaceable. The reasoning behind this is the slight amount of work it takes to remove and replace the battery. But a slightly more annoying reason is that when the battery finally fails, you only have the choice between having it professionally serviced (very likely at close to the cost for a new unit) or chucking it out and buying a new one. If you're a DIY fix-it-yourself advocate, this battery is a much more inexpensive way to extend the life of this UPS, and it's not terrible difficult to do. The procedure requires: - making sure the unit is unplugged from an electrical socket; - removing four screws from the bottom of the case; - lifting out the old battery and removing the two connectors; - reversing the connections on the new battery; - inserting the new battery, replacing the bottom cover and inserting and tightening the four screws; - Testing operation. A few helpful hints. - Make sure the UPS is powered off and unplugged from the wall. This should be obvious. - You will need a Phillips screwdriver with a long, narrow shaft to fit in the deep screw holes. - Note the position of the case when you remove it. You want to put it back in the same position. - Some repair videos instruct you to remove the yellow connecting plug from the bottom of the unit. This plug is often very difficult to do and it's really not necessary. - When removing the old battery, note that the two connectors are closer to the back of the unit. The connections fit into two slots underneath the top, so the new battery must go in the same way. - The connector colors (red and black) are the same as their associated wires. - The connectors are crimped on the tabs and are difficult to remove easily. Cutting back the black shrink wrap around the outside of each connector makes it a bit easier, though you will have to wiggle it well and pull a bit hard. Try using a pair of small pliers to grip the connectors. They're securely attached and hard to damage, but use care anyway. - Rewire the new battery and wrap a small piece of electrical tape around the connectors if you cut the shrink wrap. - Slide the battery in place, then move it a bit until the connector tabs line up with the slots in the top of the case. You can do this by feel by wiggling the battery with your hand until it drops in place. - Carefully slide the case on. - Before reinserting the screws, test the operation. Hold the unit by the bottom and flip it upright Plug the UPS into a wall socket, hold the power button until it beeps and the green light comes on. - Plug something electrical into one of the battery backup ports (a small lamp is perfect) and turn it on. The lamp should light. - To test the battery backup, carefully remove the UPS' plug from the wall with the unit turned on. You should hear a click as the battery kicks in and the lamp should stay on. - Press and hold the UPS power button until the UPS turns off. If this test doesn't work, flip it over, remove the bottom cover and check everything out. If everything works, replace the four cover screws. You should be able to drop the screws in and tighten things up. I put a dab of grease on the screwdriver tip to hold the screws in place as I eased them into the holes. I tend to drop things. That's it. You spend a bit more than $18 and an hour of your time to get back online instead of the $50+ or more to get a new unit altogether. Hope this is helpful. Read more
