Having used a variety of these types of devices from various manufacturers (or distributors, who knows?) I can say that the FootFitter Premium Professional is strikingly superior. This type of device MUST be heavy duty with a sturdy mechanism of action in order to effectively "stretch" a shoe without breaking (the device not the shoe; although I suspect this could also ruin a shoe if "cranked" too far.) When used in conjuction with Eagle Boot Stretch spray, the process is made more effective and the end result is longer lasting if not permanent. Leather is a tricky material and a certain amount of aquired "finesse" will serve you well. Read more
UPDATE: Received largest size today. Fits well for my US Men 12 shoe. I took the time to rub some beeswax on the threads before attempting to use the device as the dry metal on metal is difficult to use and will increase wear on the device. (For the premium price of this unit the threads should have been better polished and then lubricated at the factory at the time of manufacture.). To the manufacturer: If the knurled knob were more like the one I uploaded with this review it would be much easier to turn while holding the other knob steady. Pretty good quality though the metal threads are a bit rough, could use a bit more polish / some silicone dry lube to get them to turn easier. Main problem I have is I ordered the Large size which should work for my men's US size 12 shoes, and I ran out of travel on the threads before reaching the point of stretching my shoes. Returning for the larger size. Read more

Great quality! Sized right, which is crucial to getting a good stretch. People who have complained about breaking the "hinge" are using too small a spreader on too big a shoe. That piece should hardly flex at all if the tool is sized right. This was hard to get in my 9.5 shoe, which meant the tool was able to meet resistance and do its job easily. Make sure to soak the shoe inside and out with a mix of rubbing alcohol and water. And don't try to do too much in one stretch. Let the tool work without over tightening it. Once dry, it may be necessary to remove the tool, soak the shoe inside and out again and reapply the tool. Repeat as necessary. Trying to go too fast is bad for the shoe and the spreader. Top quality construction, all wood and metal, the finish is just great. Holes are drilled symmetrically so that you can truly use this in the right or left shoe. Don't cheap out and buy the cheaper kind because they come in pairs. I did and regretted the purchase. I expect this purchase to last me a lifetime because it is so solidly built. If I experience a failure I will update this review, but so far it looks like a winner. I got nothing for this review, so you know it is totally honest! Read more
It works great…you can stretch areas with the metal inserts… I recommend buying the leather spray and stretching from the inside! Read more
This is a very sturdy shoe stretcher and will probably last a life time ( yours, not the shoe ). It is made of solid beech wood, stainless steel and one wing knob of a high impact plastic. I am using this device to stretch a hiking boot which is not what it is advertised to do. It is a shoe stretcher not a hiking boot stretcher. I was unwilling to throw away a half used pair of $250.00 hiking boots without trying to stretch the one boot that was about 1/4 inch too short. I have used the device twice, once for 24 hours and once for 12 hours after conditioning the leather with Neat's foot oil. It have stretched the boot 1/4 inch and no more. The boot is now wearable. It seems the leather has a memory and wants to go back to the shorter length so I have used it twice so far. The time between use is about one week. The limitations of this device is that it is difficult to insert into a hiking boot and the adjustment ring is jammed against the back strap requiring a channel lock plyers to turn it. The ring is knurled so it is not a problem getting a grip on it. This device will not stretch and widen at the same time. Once the lengthening is at tension, the widening will not operate. One will have to do each operation separately. I understand the device is not a boot stretcher and therefore give it 5 stars for performing beyond its description. Read more
