I first want to say that I owned the 1st generation onyx before this one, so I know what to expect and it is a huge step up. The fact that this one includes all of the international outlet plugs for travelers deserves 5 stars off the bat. Also I want to make something clear, because from all of the comments that I’ve seen it seems like most of you are first time owners. The speaker MUST be plugged in to receive power for all of the drivers for max volume and clarity. Other wise you will just be consuming half of the product. Mine is always plugged in and I rarely take it out so battery life isn’t really a problem for me. The sound is so amazing, even at low volumes you still get little bass bumps. I also love that this one now has a microphone and connection for more speakers. These are 2 features that I really wanted when I had he 1st generation and I’m so glad it’s included now. I plan on buying at least 2 more for surround sound because they are really just that amazing. For the price, these are the best speakers you can buy. Just follow the directions, keep it plugged in all the time if possible and download the app as well. Read more

It’s all about that bass! This speaker is gooooood! When playing, I’ve literally had people come from another room to ask what brand the speaker is. Bluetooth connectivity is easy peezy. The power that this little speaker puts out is top tier! Battery life lasts a looong time. I’ve played the speaker for 6ish consecutive hours. I’ve even turned the speaker on and off on several occasions after listening for a while and it holds battery well. It’s well built. It’s the go to party, get together, solo dolo, jam session equipment you didn’t know you needed. You won’t be disappointed! At least we're not. Read more

Portability. Ease of use. Looks lovely. Setting up the first time was simple. As soon as I turn it on the pairing with my phone is smooth. And good sound. I use it on my balcony. Just enough richness at fairly low volume to have good listening while not pissing off the neighbors. One thing to note is to NOT try to dial in to a conference call line while it's already paired with your phone. Phone in first to the call with the speaker power off, and enter your access code. Then turn the power on the speaker and let it connect with your call. Doing it the other way will distort the connection with the conference line and it won't recognize your access code when you try to log in. Read more

I do alot of random stuff & love some good music playing throughout. These are great for just that and roughly anything else that involves portable music to enjoy with others. I've had every inception of these up until the 4th gen... haven't needed to upgrade just yet but when I do I'll be starting within this line. This is actuality the 2nd I've purchased...I like that you can connect 2+ more. My favorite mode is part mode...full boom to each speaker. Pro: pretty good sound (very good for a bluetooth speaker), looks decent, easy to set up, can run off included AC adapter or battery, can play very very loud if desired, great price. Con: needs an eq to fix boomy bass, Downloadable HK apps are utterly worthless and illconceived. Documentation is laughable. My wife has an Oontz 3 Ultra, which she loved, but the sound quality just wasn't good enough for my preferences, so I got this for our kitchen to replace a high end (but bulky and messy looking) bookshelf system. Straight out of the box the Onyx produces very exaggerated sound; there's a club-like boost to the lower bass (overcompensating for the natural limits of using a small speaker). Fortunately, Spotify (which she uses) includes a decent eq (which took me forever to find, but is easy to set up). The end result is quite satisfactory, and greatly reduces the clutter of cables and boxes of the prior traditional component stack I'd been using. Her Oontz also struggles at times to be loud enough for her uses (as a boom box for kids yoga/dance during recess), so she'll probably steal the onyx occasionally for that. At this price, I suspect it is hands down the best sound for the money. I've heard 3 pc Sonos setups that sounded better, but the cost was ~7x higher. Read more

The sound is amazing and loud. I listen to it every morning while getting ready at medium volume for 30 minutes or so and rarely have to charge it. I plan on getting another one so I can have one inside and one outside for parties. It even connects effortlessly to my computer bluetooth where I have had difficulty getting anything, including my Bose headphones to connect to it. The only con I can think of is that I have not yet figured out how to tell what the battery life is at other when the power button goes red indicating low battery. My Bose headphones give me a percentage readout on my iPhone but this just says its connected (if somebody knows of a way to get the battery percentage to show please let me know). Read more
