I own some Shun knives, so I'm familiar with premium chef knives. While those are very delicate, subtle in their Damascus patterning, and light, these are bold in their design, heavier, and more of a workhorse knife. They have full tang and are well-balanced. I like the weight and heft of the handles on these and they fit well in my hand. While my other knives feel like they're more for display, these seem like a knife I can use on a daily basis that, with care, will last for a long time to come. This starter set contains the three knives you need the most: a bread knife, a chef's knife, and a paring knife. For most people this is enough, and you don't need a huge block filled with specialist knives you'll never use. Read more
Best knives we've ever had. I almost feel bad using them. Holds their sharpness and the metal is amazing. Read more
You never know how dull your own knives are until you use a knife that has been properly sharpened. And these knives are definitely properly sharpened. They make cutting things I would normally have some struggle with, such as tomatoes or bell peppers, extremely easy. They're weighted well enough, which makes using them a more pleasant experience. I'm no professional, so I can only describe the ease of use to an extent, but these feel like they're very high quality. They're easy to clean as well, and have a design on them that would make me, personally, call them "pretty." They come in three separate boxes, adding to that exclusive professional feel. These are a really nice set of knives that make cooking family dinners feel like cooking fancy meals! Read more
It's hard for me, an average normal at home cook, to believe this is what's considered a starter set so I feel well below who it's meant for. To me, this set is the best out my average cookware and knowing how out of touch I've been with what a good knife is supposed to be. The bread knife was what kicked it out of the water for me. I make my own bread at home and the knife effortlessly cut through it without snagging any piece of the bread. The little one, I used it for handcutting an apple and the same experience, it just sliced through for me easily. My husband used the larger on for cuts of meat we got from Costco and adores it just as much. We plan on getting a proper sharpener for the set. It's also our first time with damascus material and my husband is beyond excited that he's bragging to his friends about the knife set. It's a stunning set either for a special gift or personal use, we're having a great time with them so far. Read more
Decent knives, come pretty sharp. They are starter knives, but on the higher end of them. The bread knife is especially nice. They look awesome. Read more
Can knives be gorgeous? YES!!! These three knives are actually gorgeous! I almost don’t want to use them, and keep them pristine…but of course, they are calling out to be used. And they do not disappoint! The chefs knife is forceful when needed through tough butternut squash or thick meat and vegetables, and the balance is excellent, truly gliding through food as if the knife and hand are one. The bread knife works as one would hope, and the paring knife sliced paper thin tomatoes, cucumbers, apples and zucchini, and quickly maneuvered through bell peppers. I am clearing out and giving away some older knives, and will enjoy these extremely practical, useful and beautiful “art pieces” for many years, I’m sure. They would also make an incredible, well-appreciated wedding or house gift, as they are finely packaged in individual Henckels boxes with fitted sheaths. Read more
I love Henckel's and this knife set doesn't disappoint. They come in a nice gift box that doesn't have the Henckel's label on it but when you open up that box all 3 are individually boxed. They look really neat with the pattern and I like that the pattern isn't just for looks, it actually helps with corrosion & protects the knives themselves. Holding the knives all feel really good. They are sturdy and hold evenly. They are all very sharp. The only thing that confuses me is it says "Starter Knife Set", I wouldn't call this a starter set I'd just call it a "set". No stars removed for this, I'm just confused about the title. They are expensive, but good knives are worth the price & will last forever. I believe these are worth it. Read more
